The Avengers: Does "No Ant-Man" mean "No Hank Pym"?

My thoughts (and wishes) on the whole "No Ant-Man" thing.

Nathan Fillion has already responded to the rumors that he might play Ant-Man by announcing that he has no time in his schedule even if there were an offer, but Whedon says that there isn't. "Although by the way I think he would be great," said Whedon. "Ant-Man does not appear in The Avengers." Oh well."

Now: maybe this is just wishful thinking but I think that just because Ant-Man isn't in the film it doesn't mean that Hank Pym won't be in it. Hank Pym has taken on the identities of Giant Man, Goliath, Yellow-Jacket, and even Wasp. What if this is just Joss' way of throwing us off a little bit? Personally: I'd love to see him as Yellow-Jacket. It would fit into the military look a lot more than any of his other characters, in my opinion. The black and gold suit would look great alongside the Wasp's black and gold suit. Now: this is MOST LIKELY just wishful thinking and I highly doubt that he's in it at all, but let's be optimistic until all bets are off. Shall we? I know that I'm going to try to be. Just sayin'.

Giant-man is what I'm still hoping for. The "Ant-man" movie can chronologically be a prequel. Also Giant-man is an easy sell.

Casual fan - Who's that?
Me - Giant-man.
CF - What's his power?
Me - He's a giant.
CF - ah...
Me - Yeah, and the Avengers was kind of his idea.
CF - Oh, neat.

Now change it to Ant-man and he needs all kinds of set-up.

CF - WTF is that?
Me - It's Ant-man, he's totally cool.
CF - What's his power?
Me - He can shrink down but maintain his normal human strength.
CF - Normal human huh? That seems kinda lame. And what's that he's riding?
Me - Those are his flying ants.
CF - Why doesn't he have wings like the Wasp?
Me - I actually don't know.
CF - How does he get the ants to carry him?
Me - He can talk to ants.
CF - How?
Me - His helmet is a communicator.
CF - Uh, what?
Me - Um... but he HAS to be here, the Avengers was his idea, sort of.
CF - Oh, uh, sure, if you say so.

See what I mean?

I think Hank Pym will be in the avengers movie but that doesn't mean he is one of the heroes he could be a scientist that helps them out or maybe he will become a hero during the movie.

I think that they'll be in this film so that they can go ahead and set up for Hank building Ultron as like the ultimate S.H.I.E.L.D. weapon.........which ends up trying to kill them all.

You beat me to the subject! That's okay, I need a break anyway. ;)

I think that just because Joss said Ant-Man wouldn't be in the film doesn't rule out Hank making an appearance like SUPERBATSPIDERMAN said. If he wanted to say Hank doesn't appear, who could've said that and we wouldn't be talking about this. Maybe the other way around? Hank could just be a scientist in the film, then when Edgar Wright's Ant-Man comes out it will feature Scott Lang taking over Hank's role as the character. That's how it might go.

I'm going to wager that Hank will make an appearance just as hank, and possibly Janet, kinda like Hank does in the first Marvel Ultimate Alliance game, all the fans know who he is, and what characters he could possibly become, but i'm thinking the character will be a cameo set up for appearance as an avenger in a sequel

@brazilianbatman I agree, Ant-man is totally cool. However, to a non-fan, his character needs a lot of explanation, which isn't going to happen before the Avengers film. I'm really starting to doubt that Hank is in the film at all, but if he is in as Giant-man, he'll be at least 20 feet tall. But, we shall see...
