Armie Hammer On Almost Playing Batman In George Miller's Justice League

We have heard from a few actors who were set to star in Miller's Justice League: Mortal. But now Hammer, who was set to play Bruce Wayne, makes it sound like we really might have missed out on something great..

Speaking to Collider/Slashfilm about his new film, David Fincher's The Social Network, Armie Hammer confirms that he was indeed set to play Batman in the long since defunct Justice League movie, and is full of praise for Miller's vision of the super hero team..

Asked if he was originally going to be in the film..

"Your not wrong, your 100% right. I was up for the role of Batman in George Miller's Justice League and it was going to be, in my opinion, one of the greatest comic book movies ever made. The universe that George Miller created and the work he did on that was unlike anything I have ever seen. The way he approached it was like a phycologist. He wanted to show the truth of these characters in a way that I don't think we have seen on film before. Its unfortunate that he never got a chance to show the world what he had, but we all saw it. We saw all the pre viz stuff. He had a room with story board depictions of the entire movie, you could walk around and get the whole movie. He had it all figured out.

Hammer also reveals that he spent time training with Special Forces in Australia for the role. I think the general consensus is that this film would most likely have bombed even if it did get off the blocks but listening to the actors involved you really have to wonder. I know I'm not the only one who would love to get a look at those storyboards anyway.

This had the chance to be as epic as G.I. Joe.

Armie Hammer as Batman? Come on.

Well, sure the cast SEEMED a bit off. But who knows what Miller would have manged to get outta em if that script and story were as strong as Hammer says. Then again, he's hardly going to say" Man that movie would have sucked ass!"

It would've been interesting to see this get made, but it's easy to understand how it didn't. Writer's Strike + Pressure from Nolan = no movie.

I have to admit, I had never heard of this actor before Miller's JL. Someone recently suggested him for Nolan's Superman, so I hit youtube for a sample clip of his acting. What I found shocked me. I think based on it and his less masculine features, it would have failed. I'll take Bale's horribly gruff voice ANY day of the week over this Armand Hammer. You be the judge!

@jbak368

it was not just that but the casting of the actors the seems very young looking. also the fan reaction to this project was not good

I still fall to my knees and thank God that DC/WB killed this thing. I'd still like to see the storyboards and script just to know it was a bad as it seemed. The main thing I had hang ups about was the terrible miscasting I was seeing, and Mom's video above just goes to prove how terrible that casting indeed was.

yeah i think the biggest problem were the ages. they all seemed like they would have been in highschool which is way too young for a justice league movie.

I would've loved to see what this would've been like. They should revitalise the project after they release the dc films. Even if its not connected to the other films.

Around here when I hear phrases like 'general consensus is that this film would most likely have bombed' it makes me curious. I know very little about the project so I have no real opinion.

I think the casting is what really endangered the Justice League movie. The people cast were not Superhero'esque in my opinion. Superheroes are meant to be larger than life and none of the people were remotely close to that. Superman needs to be 6'2 or 6'3 and not 5'10, for example. I just think had Miller cast better actors in the role, it may have gone through.

One has to think these storyboards for this project are bound to get uploaded to youtube in the future ,especially if there was pre-vis involved. BTW,Tea,that pic wouldn't happen to be from your personal scrapbook, would it?LOL I'm kidding, just kidding...

Well, see the thing is it was going to be Beowulf/Polar Express style motion capture, so none of the actors would've necessarily had to look that much like the characters or be any specific age, since all of that could be handled with the computer. This would've allowed Miller to cast for certain specific qualities he wanted to come through. I think it could've been interesting, but I'll only be sad we didn't see it if we don't eventually see something else.

This was Lee's man crush to play Captain America, guess since Arm & Hammer is an AMerican brand as well.

A Justice League movie should have everyone who played in the solo movies, Christian Bale, Ryan Reynolds, and whoever they get to be Superman, Flash and Wonder WOman. Just like Marvel is doing with The Avengers (with the exception of Ed Norton

BTW for those who don't know, I was the guy who cast Armie Hammer as Superman in MOS. I'll save all my points for the upcoming article except to say...

Armie Hammer for MOS FTW!

@UltimaRex...I didn't want to call you out by name, but since you outted yourself (pun intended), I'm looking forward to laughing, er, reading the article, son ;p Dressing in drag and being a drag are two different things. He still looks too boyish to be Superman!

@P862010...well, the acting classes must have paid off for him, too, then. AMY was pretty crappy in that youtube vid, though. It still doesn't make him any more manly.

As for acting improvements:

I'm still not buying Armie as Batman, but I will say this, he did an excellent job in the Social Network movie. I was very impressed with his acting ability. Dye his hair black and he may have what it takes to tackle Superman. He has a very deep voice, so he doesn't sound boyish in the least.

Some of the people here really need to get jobs in the Industry. If you think you can judge a movie at this stage they will pay you big bucks. Strangely enough even after all the decades of making movies nobody in Hollywood knows what you guys seem to.

It does not sound like a classic interpretation but that does not mean it would not work.
