Warner Bros. Discovery's decision to shelve the HBO Max Batgirl movie when it was already deep into post-production came as a massive surprise to everyone, and is still being discussed weeks after the news broke. The studio received a not insignificant amount of backlash for the cancellation, but WBD brass don't seem to be overly concerned.

While speaking at the Bank of America Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference, Warner Bros Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels was asked whether the company’s reputation "in the talent community and agency business" had been negatively impacted by the cancellation of Batgirl and several other HBO Max projects.

Wiedenfels does not believe it has. “Media likes to talk about media, I guess,” he responded, adding that the announcement was "blown out of proportion" by the press.

The exec didn't elaborate any further, so we're not sure if he meant that the reasons for the cancellation were not entirely accurate or that the media overreacted. At the end of the day, the press was only covering the news, and the news did not portray WBD in a very positive light.

As things stand, the chances of us ever getting to see Batgirl for ourselves are very slim, but we recently learned that Warner Bros. Pictures Group chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy have reached out to star Leslie Grace and are "entertaining the possibility of having her continue to play Batgirl in a future DC film.”
