BATGIRL TV Series Rumored To Be In The Works For DC Universe Streaming Service

Warner Bros. is putting a lot of time and effort into its DC Universe streaming service and now a new report claims that Batgirl is being developed, seemingly closing the door on those big screen plans.

Titans, Doom Patrol, Stargirl, and Metropolis are all in various stages of development for the DC Universe streaming service and it's now been reported by Fandom Wire that Batgirl might join them.

Apparently, a 13-episode live-action series starring the hero has been ordered and it's said that shooting will begin next February for a planned 2020 release date. As of right now, no one is attached to take charge of the project and an actress hasn't been found to take on the role of what would presumably be Barbara Gordon. What does this mean for Warner Bros.' big screen plans for her?

We know she's not being introduced in Birds of Prey and after the project lost writer and director Joss Whedon, it's in something of a state of flux. It would make sense then for the studio to bring Batgirl to the small screen instead but it is feasible that we'll get a movie and TV series similar to The Flash.

I mean, most people don't even want to pay for Disney's streaming service, why on Gods Earth would people want to pay for the DCU streaming service? To be honest, I'm sure DC's streaming service shows will be much better than the CMT show's and the dreadful Cinematic releases.

I think they have to first see how Titans and Doom Patrol perform and the proceed.

It would be neat if it was connected to those shows since both Geoff Johns and Berlanti and others are involved in them. Same with Stargirl.

The only ones in DC Universe that aren’t are Swamp Thing and that Metropolis one, which I aren’t that excited about.

Baby steps.

@NinnesMBC - They really can’t take a wait and see approach. They can’t sell a streaming service on old episodes of Lois and Clark and the Burton Batman movies. They have to have a constant flow of original content for it to have a chance to succeed.

God I hope so. Her stories would be great for TV, and creating a shared Batman universe where one person might not keep the mantle for too long? Perfect.
