NIGHTWING Movie "Still A Reality" According To THE TOMORROW WAR Director Chris McKay

Warner Bros.' DC Films Universe has gone through a lot of changes since Chris McKay was announced as director of a Nightwing movie back in 2017, but the filmmaker has now shared a hopeful update...

It's been quite a while since we heard anything about Warner Bros.' long-stalled Nightwing movie, and most fans assumed the project simply fell by the wayside when the studio decided to take the DCEU in a different direction. However, it sounds like there might still be hope for Dick Grayson to suit-up on the big screen.

We first found out that Chris McKay (The LEGO Batman Movie, The Tomorrow War) was attached to helm the project back in 2017 with Bill Dubuque (The Accountant) set to pen the script, and the filmmaker has since confirmed that WB put the film on "the backburner."

Now, McKay has offered a more positive update, revealing that he still hopes to develop Nightwing at some point.

"I hope it’s still a reality. I hope that we still get to make that movie. As far as I’m concerned, it’s not lost yet," McKay tells CinemaBlend. "It is obviously something that… they’ve had other priorities, they’ve had other challenges. They’d had things that they needed to do, and I think that they found their way, with their recent successes, and the stuff that they are planning on doing now."

"I think it opens the door for us to still be able to do a Nightwing movie," he continued. "Whether you call it ‘in an alternate universe’ or you pick in their multiverse universe which universe it’s part of, there are different ways into it. But Nightwing is a big, action-packed, emotional movie. It may not, budgetarily, be similar to what we do with The Tomorrow War. But from a scope and scale standpoint, as far as the kind of action and the kind of heart, that’s what Nightwing is going to be all about.

It certainly sounds like the Nightwing film is still on the table, and that McKay has a solid grasp of the direction he'd like to take the DC Comics hero in. It remains to be seen if the project ever takes flight, of course, but Warner Bros. would be wise to capitalize on the popularity of the character.

I can only imagine what the general audience might think of a Nightwing movie:

-"So, this is Batffleck's previous Robin?"
-"No, that was murderded by Zack Snyder. Or the Joker. Your choice"
-"I see, then its the new Batman's previous sidekick? The shiny vampire?
-"Nah. That one is just starting his career as Bats. Not a chance"
-"Oooooh so this is Nolan's Robin! From TDR?"
-"Eeeeh nope"

@Elbarto63 - unless the trailer frames the new narrative, I can see it being very confusing.

@ElricReturns - Everything will be confusing until they put someone in charge who cares. Or sell DC. Either/or.

I don't necessarily want a Nightwing movie, but I wouldn't mind Dick Grayson showing up in a movie soon (with Dylan O'Brien in the role).

Now that I think about it, I think they should just make Young Justice the next live-action cross-over. The only new characters being introduced are almost all young or sidekicks: Supergirl, Batgirl, Static, Blue Beetle, Nightwing and Zatanna.

I had an idea a long time ago, actually made an article about it lol, where they should just integrate Batgirl and Nightwing in the same movie.

Make it a rom-con action thriller. Not saying either these characters can't carry their own movie, but they'd be so much better together.

Call it Gotham's Finest or something.

Sooooo, is WB just going away from a shared universe after these next set of Snyder-verse movies come out? I am actually genuinely curious.
