Sorry, But DUNKIRK Director Christopher Nolan Really Doesn't Want To Talk About BATMAN

Christopher Nolan spent a lot of time with the Caped Crusader after taking the helm of The Dark Knight Trilogy, but his response to a question about Ben Affleck's Batman was surprisingly blunt...

Christopher Nolan appeared at CinemaCon this week to promote upcoming World War II drama Dunkirk, but if you thought the filmmaker would be happy to talk Batman, think again!

When he was asked about Ben Affleck's take on the iconic superhero and whether he follows that version of the character, Nolan was quick to shoot down any talk of the DC Universe's Batman. "No, no, I don’t want to go into that. I’m here to talk about Dunkirk." That's fair enough, but it's still pretty surprising that he didn't want to offer any sort of comment about Affleck's Batman!

It could be that he really did want to keep the focus on Dunkirk, but Nolan's split with Warner Bros. and the DC Films Universe is still shrouded in mystery as he served as an executive producer on Man of Steel before moving away from this world upon learning that the studio had plans to introduce a new Batman who would battle Henry Cavill's Superman in last year's Dawn of Justice

Nolan did, however, say this about how The Dark Knight Trilogy prepared him for Dunkirk! "I think the time I spent making large scale entertainment — with respect to entertainment, this is suspenseful entertainment. My 10 years of working with the character [of Batman] is essential to understanding imagery and sound, and push-and-pull in a particular direction." What do you think?

just another case of people doing interviews and not giving a shit about the movie that is being promoted.

it's the same thing as when Ben Affleck was doing press for Live By Night. That's not what they are there to talk about.

Not really the same.

With Affleck, he was directing and starring in an upcoming movie and the reporter wanted to get a scoop.

With Nolan, he's no longer involved and they are talking about movies from 5 years ago simply trying to lead him to remark about the DCEU's portrayal of Batman.

Affleck's interviewer is justified partially.
Nolan's interviewer is not.

@Scarilian - not really justified in either case.

They both were there to talk about and promote movies unrelated to Batman.

The interviewers asked inappropriate, in the sense of the situation, questions. Doesn't matter that he is playing Batman, it's not what he was there for and the interviewers knew that.

True in that regard, i suppose i can just understand an actor being questioned about an upcoming movie more-so than being asked about an older movie. Granted the older movie was popular and the comparison would probably make sense, but admittedly yeah, they should be talking about the movie they are interviewing about
