Along with Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Batman is arguably the most highly-anticipated comic book movie of the past few years, and one of the main reasons fans are so captivated is because the film is still largely shrouded in mystery.
We've all been eager to learn more about Matt Reeves' plans for The Dark Knight, and we may now have a few new details to go on. A test-screening for the movie was reportedly held yesterday (several different sources have corroborated this much, at least), and a few reactions have been shared online. Most are very vague, but GOAT Movie Pod's BluRayAngel has divulged a few intriguing tidbits.
While there are no major reveals, some of what he says might be considered a little spoiler-y, so read on at your own risk!
The biggest takeaway here is probably confirmation that Reeves has gone with a pretty dark tone, with the film being described as a "horror movie. Very graphic, very dark, very scary." Robert Pattinson's Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz's Catwoman and Paul Dano's Riddler come in for a lot of praise, as does the redesigned Batmobile. It's also claimed that this take on the iconic DC hero does not kill.
Okay, so here's where we inch towards spoiler territory! According to this report, “there’s a scene at the end that literally had everyone SCREAMING, everyone gasped.. like it was a big NO WAY for everyone." He doesn't elaborate, but it sounds like whatever this scene entails sets-up a sequel. Could we be introduced to a new incarnation of The Joker, perhaps?
You can check out the Twitter thread below for more. Remember, we can't be certain that these details are legit, but FWIW, reliable sources have confirmed that a screening did indeed take place.
The Batman is set for release on March 4, 2022, and also stars Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and Andy Serkis as Alfred.
It was recently announced that the DC FanDome event will return this October, so we'll almost certainly get another trailer for the movie then. If you missed the first DC FanDome teaser or simply fancy another watch, you can check it out below.
