Now that Morbius has been pushed back to April 1, The Batman will be 2022's first major superhero movie. Early tracking points to a $100+ million opening weekend, and it's fair to say that everything we've seen from Matt Reeves' take on the Dark Knight thus far points to a very special movie.
A newly released still from the DC Comics adaptation features a moody shot of the World's Greatest Detective overlooking Gotham City. It's a wonderful piece of imagery, and one that offers a great look at the cowl this Batman will don while fighting crime during the second year of his vigilante career.
The Batman won't be released on HBO Max the same day it arrives in theaters, though subscribers won't have too long to wait because a premiere was recently confirmed for April 19.
The Batman finds the Caped Crusader in his early years, struggling to balance rage with righteousness as he investigates a disturbing mystery that has terrorized Gotham. Robert Pattinson delivers a raw, intense portrayal of Batman as a disillusioned, desperate vigilante awakened by the realization that the anger consuming him makes him no better than the ruthless serial killer he’s hunting.
Joining Pattinson in the star-studded ensemble are Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle; Paul Dano as Edward Nashton; Jeffrey Wright as the GCPD’s James Gordon; John Turturro as Carmine Falcone; Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson; Barry Keoghan as Officer Stanley Merkel; Jayme Lawson as mayoral candidate Bella Reál; with Andy Serkis as Alfred; and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot.
The Batman is set to be released in theaters on March 4.
