TDKR Bane's Mysterious Arm Strap

TDKR Bane's Mysterious Arm Strap

There are still plenty of mysterious elements in the trilogy-ending The Dark Knight Rises. We'll find out for certain what happens in July, but until then...

I have a theory about the costume of The Dark Knight Rises' intense villain Bane, played by Tom Hardy.
Whereas his sheepskin coats and bulletproof chestplates may be easily explained, there has been a mystery concerning the single wrist-guard that Bane wears. If it were for combat, would it not be on both arms? It may even be to cover an injury, or even store the "venom" which Nolan appears to have reimagined as an anaesthetic.
But I'm becoming increasingly sure that it is in fact a falconry gauntlet. Case in point:

This is a falconry gauntlet:

But this is a falconry wrist strap used in the Middle East, known as a Mangalah:

Combine the two. The shape of the Mangalah with the leather and buckles of a gauntlet and I think we've got Bane's mysterious arm strap.

In Bane's first comicbook appearance, Vengeance of Bane from the Knightfall series, he has a crew of mercenaries including a villain called Bird. Bird, unsurprisingly has a falcon that he uses as reconnaisance and even spies on Robin and Batman whilst plotting to wear him down before 'breaking the bat'.

We may yet see a falcon flying across the war-torn ground zero of Gotham in TDKR.

If you look at the pic with Bane, he is wearing the exact same arm strap as TDKR... But.. no falcon

But he's wearing two in the comics. I think the single glove has more significance as falconers only wear one.
It makes me think of Genghis Khan. And there are similarities between them. Eastern philosophy, a tyrant focused on domination through fear, legend and extreme violence.

It could just be for looks-- but, don't boxers wear those for wrist support when punching? It's strange however that he only has it on one arm. Maybe a scar?

I thinks you are looking way too much into something that was just chosen simply for looks.

Gonna go out on a limb here (hahahaha, not) and say that this wrist brace is there for grappling. Consider how Batman effectively grabs a mook by the wrist, squeezes, and twists... he can't do that here. It COULD also act as a wrap for boxing, straightening his hand and wrist for effective punches - but this is BANE. I'm sure he knows how to throw a punch.

(It's there for decoration)

it's obvious... Bane is an avid bowler.

Seriously, it's most likely the most simple of explanations.. it's just a wrist protector for rollerblading...

Why would he need a falcon?

Why are convinced that every aspect of these films is a plot point?
