"There aren't any playable vehicles in the game," the studio's founder Sefton Hill told GamesTM. "What we've really focused on is Batman himself. We see him as the ultimate vehicle."
With the game reported to be set in a much bigger setting that previous installment
Arkham Asylum, many fans believed that they would get the chance to take the Batmobile, Batboat or Batplane for a ride across the city. Well, I guess not! Here's more from Hill about the decision not to include vehicles and how they plan to make up for that:
"Obviously, you're now in a much more expansive area than you were in the first game, so a part of our development has been expanding Batman's navigational abilities, adding different ways to glide around, new ways to us the grapple, such as being able to grapple-boost from the top of buildings."
"That's been a massive part of development, to give that wish-fulfilment of feeling what it's like to be Batman inside this district of Gotham City. Our focus was to expand Batman as a character rather than give you lots of different vehicles to go in."
Hill has previously said that Rocksteady has yet to peak, and can do better with
Arkham City than it did with
Arkham Asylum, so I'm sure that we're still in store for a great game regardless.
Batman: Arkham City receives its major world premiere at Spike's VGAs this December 11th, and it releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in fall 2011.
