What I would like to see in a Batman reboot

What I would like to see in a Batman reboot

This is sort of a spin off/sequel to my previous article 'Where to go after TDKR?'. The title pretty much gives away the content. :P

1. Bring on more of Batman's well known villains.

As much as I love Nolan's Batman series, one flaw I noticed was its lack of more well known villains. Sure, they included Joker, Two-Face, and even Scarecrow, but I think that, with TDKR being the last of Nolan's trilogy, I feel a bit disheartened that he didn't include villains like Mr. Freeze (if anyone can redeem him, it would be Nolan), Penguin, and even Riddler. I'm glad he's bringing Catwoman and Bane in, though.

2. A sleeker Batmobile

I loved the use of the Tumbler in the Nolaniverse, but I like how Tim Burton's Batmobile had much more of a classic feel. For the reboot, I would like to see a cross between the two, having an aggressive look but at the same time look like classic Batman.

3. The batsuit

Nolan's design on the Batsuit was absolutely perfect, except it was obviously not a clear adaptation straight from the comics. Burton's Batsuit was pretty good, with the use of the classic Batlogo. Like with the Batmobile, I'd like to see a cross between the Batman Forever costume (I hate Forever, but the costume design for that was good) and Nolan's take, giving a classic feel but also much more mobile. As for the logo itself, bring back the yellow circle, but make the actual bat similar to that of the Arkham Asylum logo. Oh, and no Battits or Batcrotches please.

4. Keep the dark, gritty feel.

Batman is a dark character, and people can't misuse him as a Happy Meal toy (-coughI'mlookingatyouGeorgeClooneyandAdamWestcough-) that kids think he is. Same thing with The Joker, Two-Face, The Penguin, etc. Nolan had the feel right on, and especially perfected it in The Dark Knight. I wouldn't ask for a duplicated feel for a reboot, but keep something that pays homage to what came before it.

5. Johnny Depp playing The Riddler

There isn't much to say about this one.

So yeah, there's what I've been thinking of what should be in the inevitable Batman re-reboot. If you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments below!

When Adam West was Batman, Batman was definitly not dark. It's actually funny that you bring up the gritty tone for Batman when you have a picture of a The Batman action figure and car.
As for the main point of your article, I don't think Batman needs to be rebooted. Either continue on with the old series under a new director or just stop and let Nolan's movies R.I.P.

@golden123 I posted that picture because it's similar to my ideal look of the Batmobile, not for the show itself.

So apparently PaulRom wants a reboot and he wants it to fail in terms of Schumacher proportions.

1. I can't think of any way to translate Mr. Freeze to the big screen without losing the walking cryogenics.

2. The Batmobile as a sleek race car is enticing, but how can B-Man do what he neeeds to do when he can't even negotiate a speed bump?

3. Yellow circling the Bat-logo? Bronze would look so much better.

4. Agreed, 100%. But it's kind of difficult to keep the dark gritty feel if you throw in the campy villains.

5. Johhny Depp is an outstanding actor, but I think there are a lot of other actors who would do a far better job.

personally i dont want a reboot. i want to see those characters come to life in nolans universe b/c so far none of these villians have origins in the films. They all just appear witch leaves alot open like ras al gouhl could still be 600 years old. I think bringing the villians to life without a realistic touch up would up the anti for batman. But i believe all the villians could be used in one way or another in a relistic setting. I think the key is to keep them dark and serious and not make them say ridiculous one liners like " Lets kick some ice"

Mr freeze can brought to life through his cold and carless persontality.just of the top of my head give him the cold gun or have it shoot ice sickles or somtehing without him wearing a giant refrigerator. His name is victor fries so its not like anyone would call him anything else but mr. fries. He could receive severe nerve damage or somthing so he cant feel pain or pleausre. For instance in the TDK the joker didnt fall into a vat of chemicals and he was still just as crazy

If i ever made a batman movie, i would make it as gritty as nolanverse, but i would make it not real enough so i could have killer croc in it..the best thing to do is , if anyone ever decides to reboot the batman series to make their own, they should continue with noalans batman movies. forget the joker, twoface, scarecrow bane catwoman and whoever is going to be in 3rd movie. continue the legacy of the bat. I would not mind if someone took over Nolan's Batman, I just want more Batman!! he is the single greatest hero out there in the Comic Universe! so my choices for villains in a movie, but the ones already done or whoever is in batman3, of course, Killer Croc, Penquin, Riddler, Black Mask, Clayface, Hugo Strange, Poison Ivy, The ventriloquist/Scarface, Bring Ra's Al Ghul Back, Talia Al Ghul, And Dare I say for Friends, Robin, but just when he is about to become Nightwing, and Get Barbara Gordon in there as the Oracle, Black Canary, Zatanna or Green Arrow....well i think i'm done :D

trying to fit to many villians into the movie would just make it worse. spriderman 3 anybody. Nolan is doing a great job trying to keep the movie realistic and im sure thats why he doesn't go more for the cartoon feeling or tim burton feeling. I like the armor looking bat suit. no way he should change it.

I think it should continue in more or less the same tone. There are allready elements of sci fi in them anyway and I can see it getting a little more leniant with a new director without going right into camp. Most of the villains can fit in with enough tweaking anyway. Man Bat can have mechanical wings. (Batman has his memory cloth cape) Mr. Freeze can be done perhaps a little less literal while getting the basic charachter in. Could be cryogenics. Could use liquid nitrogen which has a freezing effect. Killer Croc can be done simply with scale tatoos and a split tongue which some people do actual have done. Croc could be a nickname aquired in prison. Poison Ivy could be an eco terrorist. If Scarecrow can have a fear toxin she can have a toxin for seduction. As long as they don't get into full on fantasy like Schumacher did. I think that was the point with Nolan. nOT COMPLETE REALITY JUST GROUNDED IN IT ENOUGH SO IT DIDN'T trail off into complete FANTASY.

Some villains I realy want to see are Mad Hatter, Calendar Man and Black Mask. Also while no direct conection like a cameo of Superman is necessary, Bruce reading an issue of The Daily Planet would be nice. Or a cameo of Green Arrow's alter ego in Bruce's business world. Flashbacks involving his relationship with his mother would be good as well as more with the father.

The problem in Spider man 3 was not the number of villains but rather the fact that they were all fighting for the spotlight. Nolan usually use one main antagonist and the others are either pawns or accomplces. There is a pecking order with their use and they act as pieces of the storytelling puzzle as opposed to 3 different puzzles.

I want a reboot so we can have the ability to see more of Batman's fantastical villains.
That's why I hate Nolan.

I like to see the follow up to the The Dark Knight Rises involving Batman in a torrid love affair with Captain Planet.

@Knightstalker I hate Schumacher's style as much as nearly every comic book fan, except the Forever costume was good and Mr. Freeze's costume wasn't the worst.
3. Hmm, never thought about bronze. Whatever works, I guess.
4. I can't really think of any major villain who can't be translated in grittiness well (unless you're thinking something like Mad Hatter, possibly Mr. Freeze, or even The Riddler to a degree).
