Ever since fans learned that the Bruce Wayne we would be meeting in Batman v. Superman would be an older, grizzled, and semi-retired man people have been stuck think just how far into his career as Batman he had gotten, and if the famous Death in the Family storyline would have already taken place in this universe.
Today we got our first glimpse at the classic "Robin Shrine" typically devoted to Jason Todd, who was killed at the hands of the Joker and later revived (reality breaking punch/Lazarus Pit) as [The] Red Hood. Many fans were quick to comment "Jason Todd", "Red Hood!", but I myself am unsure...and here's why:
About 4 months ago the following set photo leaked featuring the grave of Richard John Grayson, or Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing (the 1st Robin). From what I can make out the grave says that Grayson lived from 1982-2000 making him 18 years of age upon his death, a rather fitting age for a real world Robin...
Now we also know that Batman v. Superman draws heavily from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, a story in which the only Robin's who existed were Dick Grayson, Jason Todd (who died in the line of duty) and Carrie Kelly - who is rumored to appear. In Miller's run Dick Grayson served Batman for some time (in All Star Batman and Robin) and, "years afterwards, Dick was known to have been fired by Batman in disgrace for gross incompetence. He went through an experimental procedure that made him nigh immortal through cellular regeneration, and he was actually driven insane. He became the second Joker after the original one, and murdered several retired superheroes, including the Creeper and the Guardian. After attempting to kill Catgirl, Batman finally killed him by throwing him into lava and extinguishing all of his cells simultaneously." And Todd was never actually shown but killed off-screen in the line of duty.
While I doubt that this is the route the DC Extended Universe plans to take, I certainly see them contuniung to draw this inspiration from the Miller-verse. Batman's timeline is confusing enough as it is, and introducing 1, 2, 3, even 4 past Robin's would be even more confusing. That, coupled with the fact that Grayson is set to star in TNT's Titans/Blackbirds leads me to believe DC simply shifte the charcter to the side in a creative way so that only one of their multiple universes uses said character, much like they have done Deadshot, Deathstroke, Harley Quinn, etc...
Where this conjecture - which is COMPLETELY RANDOM, I'll admit that - falls short is when compared to other set photos we see the grave above is located to the right of the Wayne Tomb.
Which in itself doesn't create issue, BUT today we saw what seems to be a shot of the Wayne's (Thomas and Martha) being carried into their tomb years before Bruce became Batman, and therefore years before Grayson became Robin...and yet the same gravestone is still standing...could this be a minor editing goof? beats me!
But hey! This is just me literally spittballing a random idea, so leave your [kind] thoughts below :D.
