Saturday was "Batman Day" and, if we're being honest, it was a tad uneventful. With The Batman 2 still in the writing stages and those HBO Max spinoffs a long way off, there wasn't much for Warner Bros. Discovery to share. Even the highly anticipated Batman: Caped Crusader animated series is currently being shopped around to other streamers!
2023 looks set to be a better year for the iconic DC Comics superhero, though, as we'll see both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton don the cape and cowl in various projects (The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, for starters).
One person who did make sure to celebrate Batman Day was Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League director Zack Snyder. Taking to Vero, the filmmaker shared a never before seen photo of Ben Affleck suited up in the armour inspired by Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns.
We're guessing this was a costume test, though that definitely appears to be Affleck in the costume.
There was a time the actor was going to direct his own version of The Batman, a movie that was set to pit Bruce Wayne against Deathstroke. Unfortunately, it seemed as if he grew disillusioned with the role before Snyder enlisted him to return in the Snyder Cut of Justice League and Warner Bros. asked him to reprise the role for The Flash.
While the latter was once expected to serve as a farewell for his Batman, the fact he agreed to take part in reshoots for the Aquaman sequel has suggested he might plan to stick around. Unfortunately, no one seems to know whether the plan is to move forward with a Crisis on Infinite Earths event, particularly in the wake of those Ezra Miller controversies.
