EDITORIAL: 5 Reasons Why I'm Looking Forward To BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

Trying to contain my excitement for this film is truly impossible, well for me at least! We've seen the two arguably most iconic superheroes in comics and other forms of media, but to see them on the big screen together for the first time? Is truly incredible. While the wait is a pain, I'm confident that the outcome won't disappoint. So, feel free to scan through or if you're generous enough to read down below as to why I'm looking forward to Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The Story

Although we have yet to see an official plot sypnosis, there have been some interesting and ridiculous rumors as to what the film will be about. Of course the simple way is to see Bats and Supes bashing their faces in for two hours right?? Well no, with the talented Chris Terrio (Argo) being added in for writing duties (or polishing the script) can really bring out strong character moments, along with a very balanced story to keep it flowing throughout. We know that The Dark Knight Returns will have some influence, going by the leaked Comic Con footage back in July and various word of mouth by the cast, crew and director. But, only time will tell when we finally have an official plot disclosed within the next couple of months.

Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman

What happened to be the most controversial casting in recent memory, the internet crumbled in shock, aw and utter disappointment that Ben Affleck (Gone Girl) would be portraying Batman. Even seeing the petition to remove him, reading death threats and "The guy who ruined Daredevil??!!" Wouldn't stop me from being optimistic and supporting him in this role. To even make such a silly assumption that he'll ruin Batman, at the time where we didn't have any idea what he'd look like, is pretty ludicrous to me. Affleck has made a name for himself, later throughout his career directing his own films, notifying audiences that he had improved as an actor, along with presenting his new skill. Everything that he has stated so far, gets me even more excited to see his take on this particular role, a more rugged, brooding incarnation.

Hans Zimmers Score

The score to Man of Steel was sensational, and having Zimmer return was a no brainer. But more interestingly what would his new Batman theme sound like? Without "cheating" relatively speaking as to the Dark Knight Trilogy. I'm sure it'll have that majestic feel that I'm used to, we'll just have to wait and see. Also, bringing in newer themes for Superman, amongst ones for new characters such as Wonder Woman, and Lex Luthor to name a few.

The Return of Zack Snyder

We've seen his take on Superman in Man of Steel, and I'm intrigued to see what he'll bring with Batman and Wonder Woman, visually I might add. Snyder is a great visual director, and his particular style has made an impact in the film industry. With Batman V Superman, I think the similar filming techniques seen previously, will be used once again. The main thing I'm interested in is to see how the Batmobile will be utilized this time around, with the visuals he progresses should be very pleasing to the eye. With Larry Fong who previously collaborated with him on 300 and Watchmen, adding a more vibrant yet muted look to the film. Lastly, how these characters interact with one another, meshing together with the story.

Establishing A Universe

The DC Cinematic Universe is expanding, and much so starting off with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. We now have Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman  (in which Jason Mamoa keeps hilariously trolling us) set to kick start everything moving forward into Justice League. Now the question is who else will we see? I'm extremely confident in seeing this come to fruition, and excited to see it unfold in 2016. So what do you think fellow readers? Leave your thoughts in the usual place!

Great list! Thumbs up from me.

I'm hoping the film is one of the greatest CBMs yet. The fact that we'll see the two biggest superheroes on the planet clash, then see the Trinity unite by the end is unbelievable. I cannot wait.

After MOS I wasn't really excited for anything Superman again but WB threw Batman in there so now I'm pumped.

Congratulations WB, it worked on me.

Well yeah...these are the things that are going to be in the movie. Not to be a dick, but I don't think anything in this list is all that groundbreaking. Or different from what anyone else has ever said about this movie.

That said, this is better than most other editorials we've been seeing lately and it obviously had time and effort spent on it, so I can appreciate that!

Right on. Good write up. Im hoping this movie makes me like Superman. Love Batman so I will definitely be rooting for him, but I bet what happened in Man of Steel humbled Superman. I dont see him really hitting Batman.

Spot on! Screw the naysayers, I've heard almost no creative decisions that have me concerned for this movie being less than great. And w/ a Terrio/Synder/Affleck team? [frick] and YES

I'm very much interested in the story. I do like some of the actors that they chose and the composer makes some really interesting music. I'm not at all a fan of what the director and writer did to the character of Superman in that movie. They really did make some decisions that were made by a person who honestly didn't truly know the character of Superman. I also thought they didn't do anything interesting with the side characters expect for Superman's adoptive and birth parents. I did like the visuals of the movie hopefully they make it a little brighter so that they aren't trying to be the dark knight of Superman as far as the tone of the movie. I'm glad they got goyer of this movie and it seems that Ben Affleck creative partners are taking a bigger role in this movie. So on a scale of 1-10 on how excited I am for this movie. I have to say a 5.5 mostly.

The "Establishing A Universe" thing is one of the things im worried about. Iron Man 2 and ASM2 tried that and what we ended up with was movies that focused more on setting up the future rather than the actual plot. But hopefully BVS can pull it off.

@WYLEEJAY What are you talking about? Dude is already humble, he just needs more screen time and characterization. He better hit Batbitch.

@Prime. Yeah I guess humbled isn't what I meant. Careful, cautious? He still has a lot to learn.

@WYLEEJAY Due to what he was facing, he handled it the best he could. I just want character development for him now. Of course he will learn, dude literally put a suit on and the next day there was an alien invasion.

WYLEEJAY - 10/14/2014, 7:57 PM
My point being.......now he knows how powerful he really is......and how fragile our world and species is around him. He will underestimate Batman because of this. He wont want to fight him hand to hand. Thats when Batman will surprise him im sure.

Does not have to be groundbreaking, these factors just have to make the film good. Not asking for the greatest comic book movie ever made, just a good movie that will please everyone.

This editorial i can tell has had effort put in to it.

I'm really looking forward to Batman v Superman.

Lol, that forbes article is so subjective, the author can't even mask his bias when he talks about BvS and the whole thing is riddled with biased misconceptions. Just read this:

"I talk a lot about “added value elements” and Batman v Superman is basically “Added Value Elements: The Movie!” as its primary trump cards are seeing Ben Affleck as Batman (that’s a big deal, especially for general audiences) and seeing the first live-action big-screen appearance of Wonder Woman (that’s a big deal even if it basically means that much of the film’s reception will depend on said element). An added value element in a sequel usually involves adding a popular movie star (The Rock in Fast Five), a popular established character (the Chipettes in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel) or both (Heath Ledger as The Joker in The Dark Knight is arguably the mother-of-all added value elements). Marvel’s big added-value element is a big movie star (Robert Downey Jr.) as an iconic and already established character (Iron Man) as the villain no-less."

Added elements in IM v Cap being IM seems more important to him than Bats, WW, and a possible Aquaman in BvS.

He doesn't even mention the 2 biggest additions to BvS, "DJ" the cinematographer and Terrio the screenwriter.

If that article was published on this site everybody would call him an obviously Marvel biased fanboy.

@dapussy

If he was objective, he would have mentioned that RDJ's The Judge has been underperforming and though he's a great actor he is not a B.O. draw, unless he's playing IM.

He also doesn't talk about the world wide name recognition, outside America the Civil War story isn't very popular, I'd be hard pressed to find 2 people who know what it's about.

Outside America Batman v Superman is a much bigger draw than IM vs Cap, let alone the namerecognition and the fact that most people outside the CB world doesn't know anything about the Civil War story.

And if we are talking about money matters, they should be aware that WW B.O. > domestic B.O.

And that's how you look at things objectively without Marvel glasses on.

Uh huh, it definitely warrants the excitement, however it also warrant just a sprinkling of wariness (been stung by Marvel and Fox so many times).

Firstly Snyder, his skill and talent lay in the more visceral less subtle sides of filmmaking, his visual eye is second to none, this film is undoubtedly gonna look amazing (the proofs in the Affleck batman pics) one of my slight disappoints with MOS was that Snyder had slightly watered down his visual stylings when compared to 300 (an excellent cbm) or suckerpunch (a terrible cod cbm) never the less BvS will have a great visual style something all of Marvels and Foxs and Sonys efforts have fallen down on, Marvel especially, from sets to costumes to setpieces and action scenes none of Marvels films have set the screen alight with a visual flare deserving of a comic book adaptation, with Snyder at the helm and thusly setting the visual tone and palette for the entire cinematic universe its safe to say WBs DCU will look amazing full of beautifully designed costumes and sets and sprinkled with almost balletesque comic book violence. Thats half the battle right there, if Snyder does what he does best I cant help but think DC will have easily trumped the MCU with its aesthetics alone.

Snyders weak points have always been the subtler sides of cinema - pacing, arc, structure and emotional weight, he did an ok job trying to remedy these faults with MOS altho none wer completely cured n some seemed to have rotted more, hopefully with the help from Terrio and Affleck (two people with a talent for such things) I think he'll go on improving, he'll never be Nolan or Fincher which is fine he doesnt need to be the genre doesnt warrant it, the majority of fans dont even recognise it and most the fanboys wont expect it. As long as he keeps some of the pacey ridiculousness of 300 n dawn of the dead and the some of the iconic visual and audible flourishes of Watchmen the film will be a wonderful success...

All of Marvels film have disappointed me for the majority its on a tonal and visual lack of flare and darkness, I cant help but feel DC will somewhat restore my faith in big block buster cbms.

Ezras an inspired choice thank god theyre not linking the cinematic universe with the terrible tv one....

@MexicanChinman

'Plus this movie isn't about a single hero like Ironman 2 and TASM 2.'

That's kind of irrelevant to the point I am trying to make.
