EDITORIAL: How I Think Snyder Should Introduce Batman in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN

With filming about to begin, and a script probably ready, BatmanHeisenberg gives a lot of ideas to how he believes Snyder and co. should handle everything from the Batcave to his backstory to his Batsuit in the second of the series. Hit the jump to read more!

Editorial Opinion

I am going to start this out saying I like Ben as Batman. Don’t like it? Okay, whatever. Moving on. It goes without saying I am very excited to see how Snyder, Terrio and Affleck interpret Batman. I loved Man of Steel, and I am open to their vision, I just am offering another strong opinion. So,

I have several topics to cover, so I’ll do one at a time, here it goes:

Story:

I want him to have a rich story and background with Gotham. I want the first twenty minutes of the film to be similar to the first twenty minutes of Man of Steel, at least, on an abstract level. It should establish Batman and his world, give us who he really is. Just like Jor-El and Krypton. Those scarce twenty minutes make a WORLD of difference to a character.

I think Batman has a clear cut mission, and a minor villain. Someone like Black Mask or Killer Croc. Give us a glimpse into Bruce Wayne as well. Show us the three sides of Bruce Wayne. His public side, his private side only Alfred and a few know, and Batman. I want to see the entire scope of what he does. I still really want Gordon in this film, probably only in the first twenty minutes, opening a more major role in the inevitable Batman solo film. I also would like a Nightwing minor role, possibly needing to go to Bludhaven, leading to a Nightwing solo film.

After his twentyish minute introduction, I want Batman to take a backseat to reintroduce Superman and his world, also introducing Lex Luthor. I will make an editorial on Lex later and his intentions. I will be brief, though. He is what he always is of Superman. Jealous. He has controlled Metropolis for some time, and feels threatened by Superman and his capabilities. However, like I said, more on that on a later editorial. Let’s get to the topic at hand.

After reintroducing and introducing any characters, we bring back Batman, plotting against Superman. He feels it is a threat that needs to be neutralized. After an epic battle that includes a armored Batsuit and red sun rays. When Batman seems to have the upper hand, Superman comes on top and Batman and Superman enter into a shaky pact.

I mentioned in my Wonder Woman article similar to this one that I want her to be in the background for a while, and brought to the main fold in the third act. Lex plots against Batman and Superman, and eventually makes Metallo using the suit Zod left on the construction site for a LexCorp building. He equips Metallo with kryptonite, and an even more epic battle ensues. But it wouldn’t just be the Holy Trinity vs Metallo. I feel like it would be interesting if people came in with their own intentions and it became an uneasy alliance between the Holy Trinity to take down Metallo. They would get so much done if the cooperated, but they are all strongly opnionated, stubborn personalities, but eventually put aside their differences given the amount of damage Metallo is giving. After finishing, they should confront Luthor. They go their separate ways, which could possibly lead to a Justice League film.

Personality:

Batman is a secluded soul. I want him to, of course to have a front as a playboy to the public, but to be a tortured soul. Only Alfred can really know the full persona of Bruce Wayne. I want Bruce to be estranged from Dick, possibly Jason and Tim if they exist in this universe.

I want to see more than anything Bruce’s obsession. I want to see his absolute obsession with taking down crime. I want him to never stop, you see his scars. Not just his physical scars, but his emotional ones as well.

Batsuit:

The image EVERYONE wants. Everyone wants to see the Batfleck suit. Plain and simple. I have a pretty good idea of what I want. The recent Arkham batsuit was amazing, but could use some tweaking. I would recommend an anaglam between the New 52 suit and the Arkham Knight suit.

Batcave:

Not to much I want, mostly something like this:

But with a bit more room and gadgets and whatnot.

Well, thats all from me folks. Do you agree, disagree? Hell if I care, sound off in the usual place!

Great article! I completely agree. I got soured quickly on Nolan's take for the lack of these elements. Not that I hate them of course, I'd just love to see all the awesome unmined material from the comics!

I really enjoyed reading that, I personally don't want them to use Metallo in this movie though if they do I am fine with it...I was more or less hoping that the Kryptonian armour would be located by Lexcorp, & that Lex & Bruce would work on reverse engineering the armour to create an "Iron-Bat" type armoured suit & Lex's green/purple armoured suit - but that both would do so in secret, seperately of each other.
But no man, I really like what you had to say, very interesting. Sorry to sound ignorant but did you mention you've done similar for other characters in this movie? If so, where are they? Would like to give them a read too.

Also, the Batcave...I don't see the need for any of the flashy bat symbols, the guy is a recluse not a show-off like Iron man.

But I do agree 100% on the Batsuit, man...you got my opinion on that down to a tee. Maybe 60% that Arkham suit, 40% New 52? Maybe??

Nice job! I said before, they should just let the Arkum video game makes do ALL of DC's movie costumes...

I think people are forgetting that this film is the sequel to MoS. At least thats what they originally said. Giving the first 20 minutes completely to Bruce/Batman seems counter productive to that.

This should be Superman's movie. So having said that, I think Batman needs to show up as this mysterious character. He's entered into a deal with Lex to help rebuild Metropolis, and Batman sees Superman as a threat. After dealing with Lex, and finding out that Lex wants to kill Superman, Batman begins to realize that Lex is evil and slowly joins sides with Superman.

During the film, Batman can explain his back-story and who he is to Superman. Possibly after they fight once or twice and decide to actually sit down and talk. They can even do a flashback type deal, like when they did Batman's origin in Batman '89. In that movie, you didn't really know anything about Batman until about three-quaters of the way through it. Thats what I would want here. They can show him and have him do things, but don't explain his story until him and Superman finally decide to have a heart to heart.

I don't feel like this movie should explore Batman in too much detail. Let us know who he is, what he does, maybe who some of his allies are, how long he has been in the game....but don't give away TOO much. Leave Gotham and his world for the Batman film.

Thats just me, but starting out the film with 20-30 minutes dedicated to nothing but Batman seems a little much.

I love it. Having Batman in the first 20 minutes really builds up the anticipation for the Superman scenes and to see where his story is.However, if you were to have Batman in the first 20 minutes, I would wait to bring in Batman until about an hour in. Like Jor-El from MoS. Also, I wouldn't want WW to be teaming up with Sup/Batman. They should keep her scenes on Themyscira. This SHOULD be a Superman/Batman movie, not a Trinity movie. They can do Trinity for the next film.
BatmanHeisenberg
BatmanHeisenberg - 3/25/2014, 9:20 AM
Thanks everyone for reading! And the reason for the Gotham scene at the beginning would establish the universe Bats lived in. This is NOT a Superman film, even though there are currently more Superman supporting characters. They announced Batman and Wonder Woman before Lex Luthor. If that isn't sign enough that this isn't a Lex film, but a Trinity film, I BELIEVE you are mistaken. And I wanted to use Zod's armor because I thought it would make audiences connect with the first film, and it makes sense to me.

BatmanHeisenberg - 3/25/2014, 9:22 AM
Yeah, THEDARKKNIGHT, if I was in charge, like I said in the article, after the twenty minute introduction, to introduce all the Superman characters again and introduce new ones, probably until close to the 55 minute mark, and then have an epic Batman vs Superman fight.

@ BatmanHeisenberg

But this IS a Superman movie. When they first announced this film, they said it is the sequel to MoS. Everyone is calling it Superman vs Batman, or Batman/Superman, but in reality, the ONLY thing the studio has actually, officially referred to this movie as, is the MoS sequel. Unless I missed something somewhere, in which case I would like to see the quote.

Until the studio comes out and gives an update on it, I will continue to look at this as a Superman film with guest appearances.
BatmanHeisenberg
BatmanHeisenberg - 3/25/2014, 9:42 AM
It is a sequel, but they never said it was a SUPERMAN sequel. Look at when they cast people. They cast non-superman people before Superman roles.
BatmanHeisenberg
BatmanHeisenberg - 3/25/2014, 9:45 AM
It's clear from the start that they were doing Batman & Superman. Not Superman focused with some Batman and Wonder Woman splashed in. It's tenative title is Batman vs Superman, for darn's sake!

I agree bats need to be all about taking down crime and kicking ass and really know how to fight I mean Scott adkins fighting style and be very smart and be a detective and bad attitude and olny Alfred knows the real Bruce not that's batman never give up never backing down

Very nice; can defo see Metallo as a big bad firstly, once for him to return later (if he returns) powered down just for Supes.

As for Batman? Well, hopefuly when a trailer drops or even in the actual film, I wanna be introduced to him via the Batmobile; riding back into the cave, taking off the cowl after a hard night's work due to kick back and relax, only for the 'YOU ARE NOT ALONE' Zod message to pop up on the Bat-computer; instantly show you Batman's been aware of Supes from the get go, epic intro right there!

On the one hand I really like the idea to show who and what Batman is in this current incarnation. However, I feel opening up the first 20 minutes of a SUPERMAN sequel focusing on Batman would be a mistake.

I think the best thing to do because everyone already knows the Batman origin is just introduce Bruce Wayne as a rival of Lex in the business world working in Metropolis to rebuild.
BatmanHeisenberg
BatmanHeisenberg - 3/25/2014, 11:10 AM
Well, shit, I made home page! Yeah, MrDonut, I think, however it would be better to do the movie a little over a year after Man of Steel. And we can agree to disagree, Leg0las....

@BatManHeisenberg Good read and I agree with your viewpoint. If you'd like to see a really well done fan made "script" on YouTube by BanditIncoporated called "Batman vs Superman - What it should be". He also has one for Avengers 2 that he's doing piece by piece but for sure watch the 2 part Batman vs Superman one. Highly suggested viewer for everyone here reading this. I've probably watch it 3-4 times because it flows so nicely.

Great article. I don't like the idea of starting off with Batman; this is, after all, a Superman film. That said, I think giving a glimpse into who Batman is, and how he has a handle of what's happening in Gotham, is a nice contrast to superman still trying to figure out what it means to be superman. I think Snyder has a great handle on the nuance of superman, and I think that the established, defined role of Batman will do great things to highlight the contrast between the two. Looking forward to it, even with it being a few years away.

brucemix - 3/25/2014, 6:15 PM
Think that will be a great start. We already know Superman from the first movie so it would be necessary to introduce Batman first in the sequel.
Perhaps an action scene with Batman facing off against a less renowned villain.
Alternatively an action scene with Superman chasing some crooks and Batman intercepts and catches them first etc.

In any case, unless the movie was like 4 hours long, I seriously dunno how they could make WW's presence significant. Still feel they should just have Batman and Superman in the sequel (calling it World's Finest as many had suggested), and then bring in WW in the third movie...
psudavid91
psudavid91 - 3/25/2014, 6:31 PM
BMH, you mentioned in a comment that, with all the focus on B vs S, that this is less a Superman sequel, and more a Justice League-like movie (I am paraphrasing, and am on my second scotch, so could be completely off base)...but I disagree. I think this movie establishes the identity of superman...something the first movie set up, but didn't fully accomplish. The contrast of an established hero/vigilante like Bats makes for intriguing conflict in the film, but honestly, I don't want to know too much about Batman in this flick...that's what the batman spin offs will cover. Anyway, time to mentally prep for Tosh...!
