Jeremy Irons Reveals Some Interesting New Details On 'Alfred' In BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

The veteran British actor speaks to Empire about his new, more hands-on approach to Bruce Wayne's loyal butler, and drops a few intriguing new tidbits about their relationship while he's at it.

Though Michael Caine's take on Alfred in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy was far from a pushover, it seems Zack Snyder has decided to go with a far more capable incarnation of Bruce Wayne's lifelong friend and father figure for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Jeremy Irons has alluded to this in the past, and during an intervene with Empire Magazine he reiterated that the canny butler is “a man who can actually do anything if he has to.”

So it's safe to assume that Alfred will be on hand to aid the Dark Knight in his battles against the Man of Steel then? Well, we know from the trailers that he doesn't think it's wise to "go to war" with such a formidable opponent, but it's safe to assume he'll be in Bruce's corner - if only so he can try to protect him. “Alfred has lived longer than Bruce, and so perhaps has a clearer perspective on life," said the 67-year-old actor. "As well as having been in loco parentis to Bruce, his only remit in life is to protect him. And, as those of us who have raised children, let alone Batmen, will know, that is quite a wide remit.”

Perhaps most interestingly, the mag confirms that Wayne Manor has indeed been "burnt out", and Alfred is now living at "a sleek lakeside residence". What happened to Bruce Wayne's childhood home and Bat-base of operations? We'll find out very soon, as Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice will be with us on March 25.

Hmm, interesting how he used "Batmen" as a plural. Maybe alluding to the Robins and Barbara?

They should have gotten John Waters to play him.

Bruce: I'm gonna need to do repair work on the Batmobile all this week, so I'm taking the Batwing out tonight. It's my fault. I've been treating it like a hot rod.

John Waters: You can park your hot bat rod in my batcave anytime you want, sir. *wink*

Bruce: God damn it Alfred....

Following school in the 90's I worked in a cinema complex briefly in High Wycombe and Jeremy Irons came in with his family to watch a film. It was hilarious because he's just a regular hen-pecked Dad in real-life with his Wife and kids berating him when he got their food and drinks order completely wrong with me at the food kiosk. I remember thinking he seemed a nice guy in real-life and not like one of these pretentious 'stars' that believe their own press. Looking forward to seeing his take on Alfred.
