Hey
CBM! Now that
Man Of Steel is out of the way and
BvS: Dawn of Justice is next up for the DC Cinematic Universe, I wanted to analyze what the upcoming film might bring to the table and speculate how it may improve what I consider to be weaknesses in what they've already established in
MOS.
What We Know So Far
Let's take a quick look at some things we already know. Considering Zack Snyder will be directing BvS: Dawn of Justice we can expect the visuals to look amazing. Hans Zimmer is set to return as well, so it's safe to assume the score to the upcoming movie will be spectacular once again. Henry Cavill and Amy Adams are back as Clark and Lois of course. The big newcomer will be Ben Affleck taking the role of the legendary character Bruce Wayne/Batman. Another significant addition is Gal Godot as the Amazon princess Wonder Woman, who will be joining the cast in what is believed to be an extended cameo that could be compared to the supporting role Scarlett Johansson played in Iron Man 2. The one adversary we know of for the film so far is Lex Luthor who will be portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg. As for the plot, Snyder has referred to drawing inspiration from the remarkable graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns as he's been quoted saying “We’re not adapting this thing(The Dark Knight Returns), but it is the thing that will help us tell that story.”. Even the footage shown at San Diego Comic Con depicted Batman wearing armor that looks very similar to the suit he wore when he faces off against Superman in TDKR.
How This Will Improve On Man Of Steel
-Character Development
To me it seemed like some of the characters in MOS seemed almost soulless and underdeveloped. As if they had no personality whatsoever. The unfortunate thing is one of these characters was Kal El himself. The way he carried himslef throughout the movie was so somber and depressing it was almost astonishing that this was a movie about Superman. Just because he's an alien doesn't mean he can't have any definitive personality traits. I think this can be improved on in BvS becuase he'll be able to play off of another fellow hero in Batman. The parallels between the two should give Clark a concrete identity and help the viewer have a destinct idea of his character.
At the end of MOS we seen that Clark has been given a job at The Daily Planet. According to numerous news articles a statue has been seen on the set of BvS and is being presented in Superman's honor by the mayor of Metropolis. The scene is rumored to take place roughly two years after the catastrophe in MOS, meaning that Clark will have been using the dual personality aspect of his character that we all are familiar with for a while which should make people like myself who had issues with the lack of insight to why and what he was doing in MOS. This should give us a further look at his desire to coexist with the humans of Earth in turn making his character more rich.
-Story
The story in MOS was also lacking in my opinion. It was essentially all about Clark wandering aimlessly from place to place until Zod shows up and begins trying to save his race of Kryptonians by obtaining the codex (a device that contains the DNA of trillions of people from his home planet Krypton) that was intertwined with Kal El's blood before he was sent to Earth. We don't know much about the story in BvS yet but it will almost certainly be added some spice by introducing Bruce Wayne/Batman who will already be well versed in his crime fighting career and as Batman will bring his no nonsense attitude to a fairly new hero in Superman. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor will contribute some much needed personality to clash with as well. In this version of Lex it's rumored that he will be a young businessman with a giant ego and with the casting of Eisenberg, it's more than likely that he'll bring his quick wit along with some hateable smugness to liven things up. I also have a feeling Lois will do some investigating into the desires of Luthor and his company which should give her a more to do in BvS compared to her role in MOS. As for Princess Diana, we're pretty much in the dark as to how she's connected to the story.
-Action
You're probably thinking, "How can the action get better than what we saw in MOS?". The answer is, very easily. Hear me out. I do think the oil refinery rescue in the ocean was well done along with the destruction of the world engine. It was the all out brawls that Zod/The Kryptonians had througout the movie that became drawn out because the redundant punches being exchanged seemed to be causing no damage except to everything around them. It began to feel empty. Now as we know, The Dark Knight Returns will be an influence to some degree. The great thing about this is that the armored suit Batman is equipped with to take on Superman in the comic has various creative gadgets that keep the fight interesting. I think it really will be amazing to see this in a live action feature film and bringing in a very skilled and crafty human hero such as Batman will make every blow have some stakes and it will turn out more thrilling.

Again this is just my own speculation. What do you guys think? Do you agree? Or am I out of my mind and Man of Steel has no need for improvement? Comment below. Let's get it poppin.
