Dwayne Johnson Congratulates SHAZAM! Star Zachary Levi And Reveals BLACK ADAM's Targeted Film Date

Taking to Instagram, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson delivered a "very big package of gratitude" for fans helping to make Shazam! "a really big success around the world- the box office success is very healthy and robust, and I want to say thank you to you guys for helping make us #1. It's great that the critics love the movie, it's awesome that we're at 92 or 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, which again, is always awesome."

Johnson goes on to say that he's most thankful for the response from the audience, before stating that the film had a difficult production as it was initially struggling to tell 2 origin stories (for Black Adam and Shazam!)  before the decision was made to save Black Adam for his own solo film. Johnson then revealed that Black Adams is a project that's "been in his DNA" for nearly 10 years and that cameras should start rolling in "about a year."

There's a lot more from Rock in the video below as he details the development of Shazam!, so be sure to give it a watch and then share your thoughts in the comment section below.

I feel like DJ was waiting to see how these next few DC-movies turned out before moving forward with Black Adam, glad to see Shazam was great - I loved it - but I still want a Superman movie.

He will be a great Black Adam. He can do evil very well! Here he is conjuring an ancient Samoan spell on the Big Show...

Look at that Johnson magic!

He’ll be great as Black Adam. He needs to lean out a bit for the role IMO. Wouldn’t it be awesome to see Superman in the mix for that one too?!

I know that Hollywood is a business, but The Rock comes across as though the numbers, rankings, reviews and business side of moves is all he cares about. I just get the feeling that when he's developing a movie all he sees is dollar signs and performance percentages instead of actually wanting to make a great movie. Whenever he does start talking about a movie's "heart and soul" it just comes across as fake.

@bcom - I agree. I wouldnt say fake tho, but he does exaggerate

@bcom - I think it seems that way because he's trying as hard as he can to maximize his Hollywood earning potential. Remember he got a late start to his career in terms of being THE action star of our era, and he's creeping on 50. It's gonna be hard to stay that buff for much longer so I think he's really trying to make that paper while he can.

@bcom - yessir you're right. It comes across as fake and very try hard.

Its all about numbers and peckong orders.

@bcom - I wanted to say pretty much the exact same thing. There is a very real level of narcissism to his comments every time something like this occurs.

I wonder if he realizes Rampage, FatF, GIJoe and what ever that tower POS was, are all crap.

I just saw Shazam, and I really, really liked it. I’m also glad they didn’t take Black Adam as the villain, because Sivana worked so much better since it actually felt part of the overall story. Although Shazam! had a bit to much coincidences like Aquaman had a bit to much sudden explosions, this really was a solid movie

I can't wait to see Rock as Black Adam. He knows how to play a great villain.

2021 MIGHT be the year the DCEU has more hype then the MCU

@WakandaTech - I think BP2 and Batman are on even playing fields, same with DS2 and Black Adam. The advantage as of now for DC clearly is SS2 over Shang-Chi mainly because of Gunn. But it all could change once we start seeing concept art, casting, and trailers.

Should be fun tho, looks like a good year for both studios. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the BP2 vs Batman box office discussions, those may get ugly.
