Anthony Mackie Interested In BLACK PANTHER Role

UPDATED: With The Black Panther forthcoming, The Hurt Locker actor Anthony Mackie was recently questioned whether he'd be interested in filling the role of T'Challa. Check out what he says!

During a brief interview with HitFix, promoting Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, actor Anthony Mackie was informed about The Black Panther possibly being Marvel Studios' 2014 mystery film. And precisely questioned whether he'd be interested in portraying the King of Wakanda, T'Challa, Mackie essentially says he'd loved to.

"I was hoping I would be the Incredible Hulk, but that didn't work out," Mackie replied, laughing. "I would love to be a part of it. I love Black Panther and I love the story behind it. It would be cool to be a part of it."

UPDATE: In a separate interview with The Daily Beast, Anthony Mackie further expressed interest in the role of T'Challa, in addition to a potential, and suspected, direction the film could head.

If Black Panther is made into a movie, I would love for it to be along the lines of Batman. It has to be an adult action hero. I would love to be a part of it, though, and I would sign on to it today.

Anthony Mackie, 32, is personally one of my top 5 casting choices for T'Challa. Although the majority of his filmography doesn't exactly deem him fit for the role, hes dealt with action in The Hurt Locker. Anyhow, he's currently filming Pain and Gain with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson & Mark Wahlberg. What do you think?

Created by writer-editor Stan Lee & penciller-co-plotter Jack Kirby, “The Black Panther” (T'Challa) first appeared in “Fantastic Four #52,” and is the first black superhero in mainstream American comics. Back in January of 2011, Hollywood trades revealed that documentary writer Mark Bailey (“Ghosts of Abu Ghraib”) was hired to pen a live-action screenplay focused on the Wakandan king, for Marvel Studios. And recent claims indicate that “The Black Panther” adaptation could officiate Walt Disney Pictures' currently-untitled June 27, 2014 release date.

He'd be good, but I also want him to play Blade in a future film.
Ejiofor would be excellent as T'Challa.

If he got this part and nailed then I MIGHT forgive him for that horrendous performance as Tuoac Shakur(whom ironically has lineage to the Black Panther activists) in the Biggie film.

Like Mackie, Chiwetel Ejiofor is one of my top 5 choices. I just can't imagine him filling out the role physically.

And those saying Mackie needs to bulk up, here are pics of him filming Pain and Gain (May 30th)

I don't think he should be any bigger than that. Smaller actually.

His performance in The Hurt Locker was solid. At this point -- a lot of names are being thrown around -- and it really doesn't matter to me. They're all good African-descent actors.

Nope. BP needs an actor that intimidates. This guy does not intimidate. Djimon Hansou is intimidating, but too old now. That's what we need though, an africa-born actor. There are plenty of talented ones to choose from. I dig the guys enthusiasm, and maybe he'd be okay for Falcon or something, but not BP.

I can see him in the role but i need to hear his african accent. Which is why, like others have said, I would prefer someone african in the role or at least someone who has african lineage (alot of he african actors ive seen i didnt know were african cuz they have pretty good american accents and even in interviews they didnt have the african accent)

I'd be cool with Ejiofor, he's played a pretty insane and harsh bastard in some previous roles, Firefly and 4 Brothers comes to mind immediately, so he has the intensity. I'd still prefer younger.

CharlesLord - 6/21/2012, 6:33 PM
@patriautism nah, i want isiah mustafa to get the cage role cuz he really REALLY wants it. Even made a decent fan made trailer starring himself. Idf not BP i can see mackie as blade too. I can kinda picture him as Bill Foster

i still think Djimon Honsou would be perfect for the role, although i don't think i'll have too many complaints over who they eventually choose.
as long as it isn't chris tucker.

Nope. He's a mediocre actor. I wish they would cast Idris Elba but I doubt that'll happen

Djimon Hounsou is my first choice, to play The Black Panther, if not the Black Panther, then at least part of the royal family, a previous Black Panther maybe.

Ever since the Avengers made a shit ton of money I have a feeling a lot of actors will want to have a role in a Marvel movie because it is a cash cow.

As for the Black Panther I think this guy could work and have his father be Djimon Hounsou.
