BLACK PANTHER Named Regular Moviegoers' Top Choice To Win The "Best Picture" Oscar

A recent Fandango poll asked regular moviegoers which movie they want to see win the "Best Picture" Oscar at this Sunday's Academy Awards, and Marvel Studios' Black Panther emerged the clear winner...

Black Panther is the first superhero movie to be nominated for the "Best Picture" Oscar and while Roma is the current favourite to walk away with the top prize, T'Challa is clearly #1 in the hearts and minds of regular moviegoers.

USA Today recently got Fandango to conduct a poll, and the Marvel Studios movie was the landslide winner with 24% of the vote based on a survey conducted with over 3000 frequent
theater visitors. It beat the likes of A Star Is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody, and it's clear that the Wakandan Warrior's first solo adventure has struck a chord with people.

"It reminded them that entertainment could also be meaningful and change lives and change the world," Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis said when asked about Black Panther's popularity.

The Academy is obviously a very different beast to the general movie watching public, but it's hard not to get excited about the prospect of the Ryan Coogler-helmed release walking away with the big one. Whether or not it will happen remains to be seen, but this is a big win for the genre either way.

guys, if Black Panther wins the Oscar it would be weird, I wouldn't like it, it's not a movie for an Oscar

let's be realistic

@Fanmar16 - "it's not a movie for an Oscar"
Since it's nominated for multiple Oscars, it is officially a movie for an Oscar...

Black Panther is the highest grossing solo superhero movie worldwide, and domestically it's one of the highest grossing movies period. It's also one of the best reviewed superhero movies. It's won multiple awards already, is nominated for multiple Academy Awards, and has become the first ever superhero movie to get a Best Picture nomination.

Regardless of where things go from here - this movie doesn't have to prove anything to anyone anymore.

@Kyos - that is very well said. And I don’t think the folks at Marvel, although they most likely would be happy with it, don’t need a Best Picture to confirm it’s significance

Not all that surprising, since I don’t think most regular moviegoers have seen anything else than Black Panther, A Star is Born or Bohemian Rhapsody

I want BlacKkKlansman or A Star is Born to win if I'm being honest, but hey I'll take Black Panther too.
