THR is reporting that Marvel Studios has hired Mark Bailey to pen an adaptation of The Black Panther that will be produced by Kevin Feige. The Black Panther (aka) T'Challa King of Wakanda, is a long time member of The Avengers who will themselves, be hitting the big screen next summer. The Black Panther first appeared in 1966 in the pages of The Fantastic Four.

Bailey, who's credits include The Last of the Tribe: The Epic Quest to Save a Lone Man in the Amazon may seem like an odd choice for The Black Panther to some. Marvel expects Bailey to bring realism and grittiness to the project.

The Black Panther was reacquired by Marvel in 2005 when it absorbed many character licenses from Lionsgate. In 2003 Lionsgate bought Artisan who had previously acquired the rights from Columbia who had planned on making a Black Panther film during the 90's with Wesley Snipes attached.

Hawksblueyes: This news excites me. I love The Black Panther and with all we have been hearing from different actors regarding the possibility of a Panther film, this finally means the ball is rolling.
