BLACK PANTHER And SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Picked Up Some Big Wins At The Critics Choice Awards

Last night, the Critics' Choice Awards took place and both Black Panther and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse picked up some big wins. Unfortunately, the former once again failed to win the big one...

During last night's Critics Choice Awards, both Black Panther and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse walked away with some huge awards. In the case of Ryan Coogler's acclaimed Marvel movie, it sadly missed out on both "Best Picture" and "Best Action Movie," but the fact that it was nominated for an astounding twelve awards is a pretty big win in and of itself.

Black Panther did nab "Best Costume Design," "Best Production Design," and "Best Visual Effects."

Many people have found fault with the latter win because an argument could definitely be made that Avengers: Infinity War was a much
better looking movie in that respect.

As for Into the Spider-Verse, that understandably won "Best Animated Feature." Deadpool 2 didn't fare well, though, because the sequel not only missed out on "Best Comedy" and "Best Action Movie" but Ryan Reynolds lost out to Vice's Christian Bale in the "Best Actor in a Comedy" category.

Haven't checked out Spider-Verse yet but I'll wait for the digital release. Hearing it might have been the best CBM of last year and I can't wait to actually see it. Glad it's racking up nominations and wins. Any good work deserves recognition.

As for BP, not more needs to be said. But I don't agree with that VFX win. Should have been Infinity War, but I'm glad it picked up other wins. Thanos was just such a great achievement in spite of the Ancestral Plane and the opening 'one-shot' particle sequence being stunning.

VFX win should have went to Incredibles 2 because it had the best design, lighting, & CGI texture than any live action film I've seen this year. Isle of dogs is an all stop motion film too so if VFX is a technical award it should go to the most technical film not most popular film with passable VFX.

Black Panther does not deserve the win, this is going to make Marvel believe their CGI is good when it isn't.

Best Visual Effects is an absolute joke and a kick in the teeth to the other films. Some of the effects were terrible. Disgraceful.

Oh stop complaining the award still goes to Marvel/Disney and it helps the chances of BP to win actual Oscars

The absolute state of SOME MCU/Disney fanboys...

@Doomsday8888 - Wait... you're not calling out the "other" fanboys who are moaning about the award wins?

Black Panther was so inconsistent with its CGI that the entire final fight scene is a meme because of the bad CGI.

Hopefully the fact it won 'best visual effects' instead of Infinity War should highlight how these awards shows mean nothing and should not be taken seriously.

Wakanda Forever (and haters gonna hate).

While 90% of Black Panther's CGI is excellent, I would have given the award to Infinity War, by far. Thanos is by far one of the most impressive achievements of CGI in cinema history and that deserves just as much recognition as Black Panther does in the other categories.

It's nice that people awarded for what they delivered, but I wonder why there are so many different awards (same goes for game awards). An audience and a critics awards are enough right?

Good movie but horrible vfx

@sixthsense - Not throughout the film though. The amount of poor CGI in BP isn't really that much more than an average blockbuster. I still think Infinity War should have won though.
Nebula

Black Panther won Best Visual Effects? Ehhmm..
lawndart

@Nebula - The Korea scenes in BP were really fun for visual effects but I was a bit disappointed by the finale and final confrontation. Someone smoked a lot of stuff when they thought anything other than IW won for visual effects. No competition, just bias.
