BOX OFFICE: Marvel's BLACK PANTHER Has Now Crossed The $1.3 Billion Mark Worldwide

We now know when Black Panther will arrive on DVD and Blu-ray but in one of the final box office updates for the movie, it has been revealed that it's hit yet another impressive benchmark worldwide...

Well, it's fair to say no one could have predicted this sheer level of success for Black Panther. The Marvel Studios movie has been exceeding expectations since day one but it's now the tenth highest grossing movie of all-time at the worldwide box office after passing $1.3 billion this weekend. That puts it just behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi's $1.33 billion and ahead of the $1.27 billion earned by Frozen

The fact Black Panther is on the same level as a Star Wars movie is mind-blowing and its success has resulted in Disney owning half of the ten highest grossing movies of all-time. However, James Cameron remains king of the box office thanks to Avatar and Titanic and it's still hard to figure out what release could ultimately top those two. It's going to have to be something really special, that's for sure!

Black Panther's box office run is nearing its end but there's still time for it to earn a little more so it should be interesting seeing where it ultimately ends up and how long it will take Marvel to announce the sequel. There's been a lot of speculation that the studio is holding off on revealing its slate until after Avengers: Infinity War is released later this month but we'll obviously have to just wait and see.

Well deserved.

Not saying Chadwick is a bigger draw, but I don't think RDJ was that big [of one] to begin with. The only billion dollar hit RDJ was partially responsible for was IM3, but that was coming off The Avengers. He wasn't responsible for Age of Ultron, or even Civil War with every other character advertised. And I don't think he attracted much with Homecoming.

Well deserved!

The mere thought that it's made more than Civil War, IM3 and almost as much as AOU worldwide is crazy!

This tho is a phenomenon. Civil War was a hit for sure, but as big as The Avengers to boost BP? I wouldn't say so. I'd say Black Panther had its own following built from the ground up, which is pretty amazing.

BP domestic run alone is bigger than JL worldwide run...Let that sink in.

Anyway, congrats to the new King of cbm !

Marvel's greatest success, and with a smear campaign against it's audience scores, and multiple boycotts, it faced challenges no other CBM has.

The King is here.

WAKANDA FOR [frick]ING EVERRRRR!

So much for that racist audience narrative, huh?

I want it to make 2B.

@Fogs - A lot of the success is the same people going to see it multiple times.

I've only seen it twice, but I know some people who have seen it four or five times.

I think Movie Pass is allowing people to go see movies they LOVE again and again.

It would be interesting to see audience demographics numbers here in the States.

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - Probably, but that won't invalidate my comment, not by a longshot.

I think people sometimes forget that Titanic only made 1.8 billion in it's original run, and had to add re-releases to get over the 2 billion dollar mark. I think that is an asterisk we really need to add to it because technically if we are just talking about original runs with no re-releases, it's Avatar, then The Force Awakens, and then Titanic.

This movie has been an a ruthless monster at the box office, making its own path. Marvel Studios has got to be happy.

Black Panther is only $18M away from passing The Dark Knight on the ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION box office list which would make it the UNDISPUTED King of solo comic book films. This is truly nuts!!!

All of that money could finance a small country. They could call it Wakanda!
