BLACK WIDOW Could Open On One Of The Following Dates (If It Opens This Year At All); Plus Badass New Stills

While Marvel's Black Widow has been delayed indefinitely, a new report has shed some light on when Disney may decide to reschedule its theatrical release. Plus, we have a pair of badass new stills.

Marvel's Black Widow, which was widely expected to be one of this year's biggest films, has unfortunately been delayed indefinitely due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. With no new release date in sight, Deadline shared a report earlier this week which speculated on a few dates Disney may ultimately decide to move the Marvel Studios blockbuster.

With the Scarlett Johansson-starrer being a huge priority for the studio, the trade believes that Disney will ultimately end up moving the film to either July 3rd (pushing back 20th Century Studios' Free Guy), July 24th (pushing back Disney's Jungle Cruise) or, in an absolute worst case scenario, to November 6th (pushing Marvel's The Eternals to 2021).

However, considering everything going on and the very fluid nature of the news cycle, everything about the upcoming theatrical release calendar is subject to change at any given moment. Also, with theaters still shutdown worldwide and the pandemic showing no sign of slowing down stateside, it seems unlikely Disney will rush one of their biggest tentpoles into theaters until the world reattains at least some level of normalcy.

Check out two new stills featuring Natasha (Scarlett Johansson) and Yelena (Florence Pugh) below.

Cate Shortland (Berlin Syndrome; Lore) directed the long-awaited standalone, and in addition to Johansson (Avengers: Endgame; Jojo Rabbit), the film's ensemble cast will introduce several new characters into the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe, including, but not limited to, Academy Award-nominee Florence Pugh (Little WomenFighting with My Family) as Yelena Belova, 2x Primetime Emmy-nominee David Harbour (Stranger Things; Hellboy) as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian and Academy Award-winner Rachel Weisz (The Favourite; The Mummy) as Melina Vostokoff.

In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow, Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz is Melina. Directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, “Black Widow”—the first film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe—hits U.S. theaters on May 1, 2020.

Black Widow features:
Director: Cate Shortland
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow
Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova/Black Widow
David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian
Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff/Black Widow
O-T Fagbenle as Rick Mason
William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross
Ray Winstone in an undisclosed role
Olivier Richters in an undisclosed role
TBD as Taskmaster

Black Widow has been delayed indefinitely.

@Reeds2Much - Then, right below that: "Black Widow has been delayed indefinitely." 😜

Obviously, someone just cut and pasted the original article and forgot to delete a couple of lines. Still funny.

I'll go with either first weekend of August or first weekend of September.

@WakandanQueen - - God no. There's not enough audience in September because of school starting back in N.A. That's assuming they don't start earlier in some places. As for Europe it's always closed for almost all of August even without a pandemic.

My guess is X-Mas (current slate is weak) or April 2021

@JDL - IT made a lot of money in September.

@WakandanQueen - "IT" did spectacular all right, $701M all told. It was new and different. But the sequel did 2/3rd's the business the first one did, $473M. That won't cut it for BW. Not having seen the movie my guess is BW is a lot more like the sequel than the original. It's not all that new and different.

The available audience in September & October differs somewhat from the summer and the difference does not favor CBM's who really need school to be out. The start of a school year is stressful and that discourages movie going. As always YMMV.

@BillCipher - maybe an MCU break? That's my only guess.

I definitely believe July 3rd as long as theaters are opened back up in time. Spider-man has had lots of success there.

@TheUnworthyThor - That would require that this pandemic be over by mid May since it will take 5-6 weeks minimum for P&A to do its job. I'm not all that hopeful.

Forget Black Widow for a minute, this picture just makes me imagine ScarFlo in a genderswapped Bad Dudes movie.

@Spock0Clock - Only if you genderswap everyone but keep the outfits so the women are all in "traditional" ninja garb and then there's an occasional man on screen in a one piece swimsuit and fishnets.

Unless things get really out of hand- which I'm definitely not discounting the possibility of- I still think Black Widow has a really good chance of getting released this year. But maybe that's just the hopeful part of me talking....

@WeaponXCII - we've been on quarantine for a week and people already expect the movie to be pushed back a WHOLE YEAR? what?

@WeaponXCII - things are definitely going to get out of hand. We are almost about to cross 20,000 infections here in America, and it was at 1000 like a week or so ago. I think July, while it seems a bit far off, won't happen. I'd aim for the Fall.

@SensitivityII - because we’re going the quarantine route. Medical experts are trying to stop the virus from spreading and as of now the only way to do that was to limit contact but it’s not going to make it go away.

Vaccines won’t be ready for a year at the least and medicine as well. There’s a good chance things can be pushed back a year.

Free Guys can get pushed back. Jungle Cruise & Eternals need to stay right where they're at. Lol
MovieMonster

If I were Disney, I’d set the film to July 3 and movie Free Guy to the following month. I don’t want to Eternals to be pushed but it could happen so they have more time to market it once this current problem is done. They’re not going to risk putting out marketing materials for Eternals if all of Hollywoofnis on hold right now.
