Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Says BLACK WIDOW Was Never Going To Be Rated R
During the recent Captain Marvel press junket, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige officially confirmed that Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow standalone adventure will. unsurprisingly, not be rated R.
Taking all of the red in Natasha Romanoff's ledger into account, the rumor mill over the past few months has been pushing the possibility that Marvel's upcoming Black Widow standalone could potentially be R-rated, making it the first adult-oriented film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, it looks like we can finally put that rumor to bed.
While speaking with our friends over at ComicBook, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Black Widow would not be rated R and that it was just an unsubstantiated rumor that got out of hand. "It never was going to be. Somebody writes, 'I hear it's R-rated!' And then everybody writes it up."
As for the studio's yet-to-be-announced upcoming slate, Feige wasn't particularly forthcoming and coyly suggested they may scale down their operation ever so slightly to two films a year - although he did note that when something's ready, they'll be ready to make it. "There are no mandates to make any more than two films a year. As we've seen in the last couple years, when it naturally happens and when there are ideas and when there are teams ready to go, we're not going to hold something back. We'll make it."
Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Endgame) will star in Black Widow, which has Cate Shortland (Lore) directing with a screenplay from Jac Shaeffer (The Hustle; The Vision and Scarlet Witch) and Ned Benson (The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby).
