BLUE BEETLE Has Passed $110 Million At The Global Box Office (On A Budget Of $104M)

Though it's not exactly setting the box office on fire, Blue Beetle is holding up pretty well, and has now made back its production budget with a global haul of $110 million...

As it approaches its fourth weekend in theaters, Blue Beetle is holding up pretty well at the box office - relatively speaking, at least.

Jaime Reyes' big-screen debut is proving to have stronger legs than both Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash, and has now passed the $110 million mark worldwide on a reported production budget of $104 million. The movie was given a considerable boost by $4 ticket prices for the second annual National Cinema Day on August 27.

Can Blue Beetle turn a profit for Warner Bros./DC Studios? Honestly, even recouping all of its costs seems unlikely, since its modest budget isn't taking marketing/promotion, etc, into consideration.

A direct sequel was always a long shot, anyway, but DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has confirmed that Reyes will be sticking around in the new DCU - although looking at the BO performances of recent DC movies, Gunn and Safran are going to have their work cut out to reignite audience interest in the brand.

The film is set to arrive on Digital and VOD platforms on September 19.

Have you been to see Blue Beetle yet? If so, what did you think, and are you surprised that it didn't perform better at the box office? Be sure to drop us a comment down below, and check out Liz Wonder's impressive cosplay photos.

"Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," reads the synopsis. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab."

"When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle."

The cast also includes Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo.

Blue Beetle is now in theaters.

@harryba11zack - The bar is pretty low for WB/DC at this point. Any superhero film that does better than "Shazam" and "Black Adam" will be considered a victory of sorts.

@harryba11zack - Nah maybe if it was 104 mil domestically then they will be in a better place. They only get about 25% of international grosses so its a flop.

Dude, it's hilarious you're trying to spin this as a good thing. Considering how slow it took to get there, this is the equivalent of flash levels of flopping.

@MarkCassidy - ...well, if you count literally ant negative comment directed at a product a company is expecting you to buy as "crying" then you have a pretty loose definition of the word.

Now me, I'd consider going after someone simply stating facts that go against your article by bringing up an ad hominem that has nothing to do with the article subject as crying, but I guess you do you.

But seriously, do you have anything to justify calling $110 mil after 4 weeks on a $105 mil budget anything kind of a success story? Because until you do and stop bringing up an entirely different article that almost everyone agreed with me on, then it's clear who can't let anything go 🤣

110 million after almost four weeks!!!!!

Don´t forget that of those 110 million, the studio only gets about half. So BB still needs another 100+ million dollars at the BO just to break even. It's gonna make WB loose a lot of money even though it had a relatively small budget for this kind of movie. That just shows how small the BO has been for BB.

@MarkCassidy

It hasn't made back it's production budget.
The break-even point is where it makes back it's production budget.
Cinemas keep around 50% in the USA, studios get the other half.
Sometimes it's even 60/40 for cinemas.

That's why a movie has to make double or 2.5 times of it's production costs to be considered "in the green" (as distribution is still added).

@slickrickdesigns - That's not how BO profit works!

It still needs something like 120/150 million to break even.

QUICK FACT:

The two lowest performing box office DC films thus far (Shazam Fury of the Gods and Blue Beetle) in the DCEU era just happen to be co-produced by Warner Brothers ad The Safran Company!

Lol. This movie has not made back it's production budget yet. Not even close. This writer acts as if that 104 million is all for WB. It's not. They will be lucky if they get half of that money. This total is sad for it is a global total for weeks of running while other movies for DC had domestic weekend openings of over 100 million. I don't understand this writer going out of his way to act like this movie is something it's not. It's a flop. And trying to spin it's not the flop we think it is is just reporting malpractice. This movie box office wise is the equivalent of Cat Woman when that movie is adjusted for inflation.
