In 2014, Marvel Studios held an event that saw them announce the epic Phase 3 slate to the world. After initially revealing plans to release Captain America: Serpent Society in 2016, that was exposed as a misdirect mere moments later when we found out we'd actually be getting Captain America: Civil War!
We had no complaints, of course, but the Serpent Society has yet to make its MCU debut.
That now looks set to change in Captain America: New World Order following claims from a reliable scooper on social media. The team's first "confirmed" member is said to be Diamondback, with the timing of this scoop making us wonder whether that's who Xosha Roquemore could be playing in the movie.
While many of you will read "Diamondback" and think about Luke Cage's villainous brother from his Netflix series, this is obviously the Rachel Leighton version first introduced in the pages of Captain America in 1985.
As for the Serpent Society, they're a group of snake-themed baddies who have plagued Steve Rogers for years. We're a little surprised they're going to be part of a movie that's already shaping up to be pretty crowded, so here's hoping they fare better than The Falcon and The Winter Soldier's Flag-Smashers.
As always, this is just a rumour for now, and Marvel Studios hasn't confirmed Serpent Society plans.
Captain America: New World Order also stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Harrison Ford as General "Thunderbolt" Ross, Tim Blade Nelson as The Leader, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Shira Haas as Sabra, and Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley.
Julius Onah directs the movie from a script by Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman. Captain America: New World Order is set to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
