CAPTAIN AMERICA: NEW WORLD ORDER Rumored To Include MCU Debut Of The Serpent Society

There have been rumblings about the Serpent Society making their MCU debut in Captain America: New World Order for a few weeks, and we have additional details, including one confirmed member of the group!

By JoshWilding - Jan 21, 2023 11:01 AM EST

In 2014, Marvel Studios held an event that saw them announce the epic Phase 3 slate to the world. After initially revealing plans to release Captain America: Serpent Society in 2016, that was exposed as a misdirect mere moments later when we found out we'd actually be getting Captain America: Civil War

We had no complaints, of course, but the Serpent Society has yet to make its MCU debut.

That now looks set to change in Captain America: New World Order following claims from a reliable scooper on social media. The team's first "confirmed" member is said to be Diamondback, with the timing of this scoop making us wonder whether that's who Xosha Roquemore could be playing in the movie.

While many of you will read "Diamondback" and think about Luke Cage's villainous brother from his Netflix series, this is obviously the Rachel Leighton version first introduced in the pages of Captain America in 1985.

As for the Serpent Society, they're a group of snake-themed baddies who have plagued Steve Rogers for years. We're a little surprised they're going to be part of a movie that's already shaping up to be pretty crowded, so here's hoping they fare better than The Falcon and The Winter Soldier's Flag-Smashers.

As always, this is just a rumour for now, and Marvel Studios hasn't confirmed Serpent Society plans.

Captain America: New World Order also stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Harrison Ford as General "Thunderbolt" Ross, Tim Blade Nelson as The Leader, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Shira Haas as Sabra, and Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley.

Julius Onah directs the movie from a script by Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman. Captain America: New World Order is set to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.

Always saw them as being on the more obscure side of Cap villains, but if they can make Batroc look badass I'm sure they can do it with this team.

@ModHaterSLADE - yeah I envision them appearing much like him, a minor villain (group) in the overall story

That tweet really throwing in that fake-out title card from that Marvel press conference from years back?

Anyway, kinda hope the majority of the movie is just focused on The Leader. Wouldn't mind a sort of cold open with The Serpent Society like with Batroc in CATWS though.

I loved the serpent society as a kid. Bushmaster or GTFO

We sure this isn’t going to be a D+ series?

@regularmovieguy - I still don't see Anthony Mackie having leading role star power in feature films. I won't be at all surprised if CA:NWO ends up being a flop.

@sully - he doesn’t need to, make the movie good and people will go see it regardless if Mackie has Star power

Well it's about damn time. I've loved the Serpent Society ever since I saw Avengers: EMH. Give me Diamondback and Constrictor, Feige.

@FilmGuy7878 - hope they give us Constrictor…. And Good practice to get Omega Red’s ability right for the future.

@DSAC294 - Oh yeah good point. Constrictor has somewhat of a redemption arc in the comics so he could be a future member of the Thunderbolts or even the Masters of Evil if they wanna save Zemo to lead that team instead of the Thunderbolts.

Finally a crossover worth being excited for.

Sounds cringe. Ngl. But I already have little hope for this film considering it's from the same creator who worked on Falc and Winter show, which was truly awful.

I loved the Serpent Society(Wasn't Gusto a member?) in the comics, but I am worried about this.

This could just be another ragtag group that is beat down & gone after one movie.

Some of the Society would be great moving forward in the MCU, but if you intro 6 or 7 baddies against several good guys, then none of the baddies might get any depth.

Too many new characters to service gives me a scary Eternals vibe.

Just not on Disney- plz

@TheWalkingCuban - Oh god. I didn’t watch She Hulk. Is that what they did to the Wrecking Crew? That makes CW adaptations look good in comparison.
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 1/21/2023, 1:38 PM
@mountainman - CW adaptations are vastly underrated in that department. But yeah. Disney plus is a thief of joy.
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 1/21/2023, 1:40 PM
@mountainman - the important thing is they made them multicultural, even though they just look like regular carpenters. Moral of the story, I’m done with Disney+, except for that Nick fury show.

@TheWalkingCuban - Moon Knight was when I bowed out. Started off interesting then fell off like all of them.

Skipped Ms Marvel and She Hulk.

The only one this year that looks interesting is Secret Invasion.
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 1/23/2023, 7:52 AM
@mountainman - ms marvel the character was great, heck I could almost say the same for she hulk, almost

But I should’ve quit with Hawkeye.
Blastaar
Blastaar - 2/8/2023, 9:51 AM
@TheWalkingCuban - That was SO disappointing on so many levels. Utter TRASH, they should've saved these guys for the next Thor movie, and also let She-Hulk & Thor fight them. They did these guys so wrong man....smfh...
Blastaar
Blastaar - 2/8/2023, 9:55 AM
@mountainman - The MAIN show that I skipped but watched because I was bored was strangely better than MOST of the shows...Ms.Marvel..It had a VERY Spider-Man-ish type of vibe, I can easily see those two working together in the future. Yeah, tripped me out how good it was, not because my expectations were extremely low either. Lol!

She-Hulk COULD'VE been much better but they overdid the "meta" and "4th wall" stuff, got WAY out of hand.
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 2/8/2023, 10:18 AM
@Blastaar - so garbage my guy, so garbage. Shao Khan would certainly call them weak, pathetic fools, asking if that were their best.

I have a feeling they're going to be underutilized in the opening actions sequence and never used again. They should save them for another Cap sequel IMO, this movie already has too many villains: Leader, Red Hulk, Sin.

FreelancePeacekeeper - 1/21/2023, 1:25 PM
The Serpent Society, huh?

I'm getting better vibes about the movie with every bit of new info that comes out. I can see The Leader pulling their strings, as well as others, throughout the movie.

I'm thinking there will be some major ties between this and Thunderbolts, with maybe the Thunderbolts being formed to deal with the fallout from something that happens in CA:NWO. And who will be there in the end to pick up all the pieces and form The Masters of Evil?

Surely they are a terrorist cell whose members have code names: King Cobra, Copperhead, Anaconda, Diamondback...They assault a government building where Samuel Stern is in a state of cryo-stasis and the Power Broker sold them the information.

Then Cap Sam and the New Falcon save the day.

Yeah but Diamondback becomes a hero and changes sides, then also becomes a love interest for Cap(Steve Rogers).

I'm excited though, they've been teasing this for too long.
