While appearing on Seth Meyer's The Tonight Show, Anthony Mackie attempted to back track comments he told a UK radio program. Said Mackie, "I was giving respect to my fellow actors. I was saying Marvel movies are so great because they have great actors: the likes of Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr. And people take that to mean that I’m saying this is what the movie’s about and this is what’s in the movie."
Mackie's original comment about Ruffalo's potential involvement with Civil War were reportedly, "Having seen the movie, it’s Marvel’s best movie thus far. And I’m being honest, if a Marvel movie sucks, a movie in the Marvel universe, I’ll tell you it sucked. Winter Soldier and Iron Man 1 are probably Marvel’s two best movies. I feel like [Civil War] beats both of those movies. It’s really, really good. Because it’s more of an acting movie than an action movie, I feel like the story is very concise and interesting, and you get to see Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans and Scarlett Johannson and Mark Ruffalo and everybody just do really, really good acting. And then there’s action in it."
Are you buying Mackie's denial or do you think he's simply trying to put the cat back in the bag? We'll find out for certain when Captain America: Civil War arrives in US theaters on May 6, 2016.
