Anthony Mackie On Why 'Bucky' And 'Falcon' Shouldn't Become 'Captain America' After CIVIL WAR
There was a time when only Bucky was the next logical choice to become Captain America, but with Falcon now taking that role in the comics, Anthony Mackie explains why neither should replace Steve Rogers after Civil War. He also talks about being beaten up by Ant-Man...
As of right now, Sam Wilson is Captain America in the Marvel Universe. That doesn't look set to change going into the publisher's "All-New, All-Different" relaunch either, and while only Bucky was a possible candidate to take over the mantle from Steve Rogers a couple of years ago, you have to believe that there's now at least a chance it could be The Falcon instead. However, that's not something Captain America: Civil War star Anthony Mackie is overly keen on happening. "I don't think we need a new Cap. I don't think Cap needs to change," Mackie said at the Salt Lake Comic Con (via The Salt Lake Tribune). "I think [Bucky's actor Sebastian Stan] would be a great Cap, but then we're left without Bucky. I think I'd be a great Cap, but then we're left without a Falcon."
That's a fair point, and it sounds like Mackie is more than happy in the role he has, especially as The Falcon brings some much needed diversity to the roster of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. "I feel like kids don't get race. We preach so much to kids that you can be anything you want to be, and then we follow it with 'except,' and we have to leave that 'except' off." Finally, talk turned to his battle against Ant-Man in that character's solo outing earlier this year, and the fact that The Falcon came out on the losing end. Or did he? "I don't know how you all do it in Utah, but when I see two people fighting and one dude gets more punches in than the other dude, that dude won the fight … [And] I hit him more!" Would you like to see Mackie's Falcon become the next Captain America?
