BOX OFFICE: CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Passes BATMAN V SUPERMAN Domestically; Tops THE DARK KNIGHT Worldwide

Marvel Studios continues to assert their dominance over the genre as Captain America: Civil War passed not one, but two DC comic book movies at the box office this weekend. Read on for details...

By PantherManiac - May 22, 2016 12:05 PM EST
Despite dropping to second place with a 54% drop, Captain America: Civil War earned another $33.1 million this weekend for a domestic total of  $347.4 million  - passing Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice's ($328 million) and Zootopia ($334 million) to become the second highest domestic earner this year behind only Deadpool ($362 million). Now sitting at $1.053 billion worldwide, the Captain America threequel has topped the likes of The Dark Knight, Jurrasic Park and Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace to become the 19th highest grossing movie of all-time.

In terms of comic book movies, it trails behind only The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, and The Dark Knight Rises, making it the 5th highest grossing comic book movie of all-time after only 24 days of release - and it's still looking like it could end up between Iron Man 3 and Avengers: Age of Ultron when all is said and done. Not bad for a kid from Brooklyn, eh?

How many times have you seen Captain America: Civil War? Do you plan on seeing it again before its theatrical run is through? Be sure to let us know in the comments bellow.

Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Not surprising, Marvel's popularity is at an all time high right now. Provided that there are no colossal failures in the mean time, IW could make insane amounts of money.

I like keeping track of these updates, but this is just harsh at this stage. No point kicking a dead horse, we already know Civil War surpassed BvS in terms of reviews, earnings and general audience appreciation.

About time the flame bait stopped.

@Scarilian - It's just fun since BvS was supposed to be the messiah of CBM's.
