Chris Evans Remains Coy On CIVIL WAR Power Imbalance; Talks Cap's Love Life

With the Iron Man and Captain America teams revealed in Captain America: Civil War, it sure seems like Iron Man's team got all of the fire-power...or did they? Plus, Chris Evans on Cap's lack of love. "Captain America, this is not a guy who knows what love feels like."

By MarkJulian - Sep 03, 2015 09:09 AM EST

Our own Mr. Sunday Movies let the cat out of the bag and now comic book fans around the world are scratching their heads, trying to figure out how Captain America's team will ever match the firepower of Iron Man's squad.  Well, Chris Evans is out promoting his directorial debut, Before We Go, co-starring Alice Eve, and of course, couldn't escape questions about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Captain America Civil War.  When asked by MTV whether he agrees that Captain America's team seems over-matched, Chris Evans replied, "Do we?  Well, maybe you’ll have to see the movie to find out."  There are currently rumors floating around that Cap will have a spy on Iron Man's team  in the form of Black Widow and that Spider-Man will switch sides after initially allying with Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark.  Then there's also rumors that Mark Ruffalo's Hulk will return to provide some muscle for Cap but that looks as if it's no longer the case.

Elsewhere, Evans also spoke with USA Today. This conversation was not about unbalanced superhero teams but about Cap's love life, or lack of one.  "Captain America, this is not a guy who knows what love feels like.  He wants it, he thinks about it, he knows there’s something missing, but it’s not that he’s ever tasted it." Wth Emily Van Camp reportedly having a bigger role in Civil War, will Captain America finally find what he's missing?

Captain America: Civil War arrives in theaters on on May 6, 2016, in 3D and IMAX.

Cap's gonna have a trump card from being the strategist that he is. Seeing him pound Stark's face into the ground.....

Yeah, I have feeling Black Widow will be the 'Tigra' of the movie one way or another. It's actually not really that imbalanced.

It makes perfect sense that Cap's team, from whose point of view most of the story will be told, would be the underdogs.

I kind of hope Black Widow isn't a double agent though. It's a plot twist that everyone sees coming from miles away.

"The thing about Widow being a double spy is not whether we, the audience will see it. It's how Tony, one of the smartest people of the people won't predict that one of the best spies in the world that has changed allegiances more often than LeBron James is a double spy?"

Yeah, pretty much this.

@SauronsBANE

That is a good point. I've been wondering what her stake in all this actually is.

It's also kinda of interesting that Sharon Carter seems to be ON Cap's team.
I had presumed she'd kinda support Cap, but be handicapped in her role as a CIA agent.

Also...has anyone been wondering about the whereabouts of Scarlet Witch?

Or why Black Panther seems to be on Iron Man's team, when Chadwick Boseman had implied he'd be an outside perspective of sorts?

I'm clearly dying for a trailer right now...

@CinemaHero allegiances change as circumstnces arise. BP will def join Cap. If you watch the leaked gifs from the trailer, Scarlet Witch can be seen running alongside Cap's squad. BP may need Tony for something. He could be using him and his resources. We KNOW he wants to find Bucky for his own reasons. That means going against Cap so he would need an ally for that. WHY NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE ON THE SITUATION WITH REGISTRATION AND JUST BE TEAM TONY TO GET TO WINTER SOLDIER???? These teams are short lived or interchangeable. People may have their own ulterior motives

Scarlet Witch will be Cap's back up as well. People are forgetting that.

Plus Cap is Cap, and he is the ultimate leader. Tony is a poor man's leader.

Leadership is the key to winning.

spidey or vision should be the spy (like hulking in the comics) widow is far to obvious and tony would most likely suspect it/know about it and plan for it just like tigra (i think it was tigra) in the comics.

@CinemaHero I have a feeling Black Widow isn't necessarily "on" anyone's side, but is merely using this conflict to her advantage and to fit her own agenda. What that is though, is anyone's guess haha. I bet Black Panther is doing something similar - rumors are he's looking for Bucky too, so allying with Stark (initially, at least) would be a good way to do that.

Scarlet Witch is definitely involved (probably on Cap's team, seeing how she still has a legitimate beef with Stark), but I think the popular theory is that the leaked promo art had been put together before Age of Ultron, and so it was still up in the air about which Maximoff (if any) was going to die, and so they played it safe and left both off altogether.

I agree though, I was surprised to see Sharon portrayed as a clear member of Cap's team too. Hopefully that means she has way more screentime than she did in Winter Soldier.

His comments don't mean anything. These actors are not sweaty fanboys and fangirls. They don't sit and think about who could beat who and who is more powerful. To Evans, the sides are relatively equal. This isn't playing coy, it's revealing that he is an actor and filmmaker, not a comic book geek.

IF they go by the comic,

Black Panther was initially on Iron Man's side but became neutral after the first death.

Spider Man was on Iron Man's side but switched sides after the first death and saw how authoritarian Iron Man was becoming.

Vision makes the most sense as the double agent as Vision was on Cap's side in the comics and helped disable Iron Man's armor at the end where Cap almost beat Tony to death, but ended up surrendering to stop the conflict because so many innocents were dying.

Then Carter, brainwashed, helps Crossbones assassinate Cap on his judgement day.

@Crabnado if they go with Cap actually getting killed I can see Zemo being the one responsible by brainwashing Carter.

But i don't know if Marvel has the balls to kill Cap.

I, personally, think it would be a brilliant move, not just cause its part of the comic, but because it shows Marvel is willing to do anything with their property. It would absolutely stun the public.

I know its a snowball's chance in hell but it would be amazing if Cap's ace in the hole turns out to be the Inhumans. Daisy and her Secret Warriors. What better way to reintroduce Coulson to the MCU and shock the hell out of Stark than by pulling that out of your hat?

At some point we need to have a villain win in the MCU. We can argue that Loki did win in Avengers but to the audience its not a win unless the hero dies or is in some tragic state.

I say Ant Man is the spy and he gets inside Tony and War Machine's armor and shuts them down.
