Chris Evans' Steve Rogers Is Officially No Longer CAPTAIN AMERICA In The Marvel Cinematic Universe
We all saw Cap drop that iconic shield of his after his climactic battle with Iron Man in Civil War, and The Russo Brothers have now confirmed that the mantle of Captain America was dropped with it...
Steve Rogers is Captain America no more. Though many assumed this would be the case after the character decided to leave his shield and costume behind following that brutal scrap with Tony Stark towards the end of Captain America: Civil War, the film's directors (well, one of 'em) have now made it official.
"I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity," said Joe Russo when asked to clarify Rogers' position during an interview with The Huffington Post. "[It’s] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making."
Of course it's highly likely he'll return to the mantle for Avengers: Infinity War, but it is possible we'll find him living his life as plain ol' Steve Rogers when the events of that movie kick off - or will he be going by another identity altogether? Nomad, perhaps?
Revisit the end of Rogers' run as the Sentinel of Liberty when Captain America: Civil War hits Blu-ray and DVD on September 13.
