Hello True Believers, here is my very first MOVIE REVIEW for ComicBookMovie.com. Today, my first review will be for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. For those who did not see the movie yet, be warned there will be some spoilers in this article, for those who have seen the movie, read on if you want. Now let us get on with this review shall we. (NOTE: I rate each category, I rate it between 1-5 stars with a description for each one, just to help you better understand my review, for ex., 5/5 MEANS 5 OUT OF 5 STARS:
STORYLINE(5/5): I have to say, I was very impressed with the storyline and how everything from the World War II era Cap stories were all incorporated to the best of there ability in this movie, with a few minor changes here and there (EX: How Steve Rogers meets Bucky, How Bucky dies, etc.). They did an excellent job as using this movie to lead into next years "Avengers" movie, as it used certain references/items/characters here and there from the previous Marvel Films included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Iron Man 1 & 2, Thor, and The Incredible Hulk). For those who saw the movie and noticed know what I am talking about, for those who didn't, well I will only say not to spoil the ENTIRE movie, that they do have a certain element/reference/character from THOR, as well as a certain SERUM used in 2008s "The Incredible Hulk". Plus, we all know the Iron Man connection already, so I am not going into detail with that in regards. Overall, I give the Storyline 5 out of 5 stars.
COSTUME DESIGNS (5/5): Great job to the team in charge of designing the costumes for this movie, as I was very happy how they used aspects from Classic/Marvel Universe Captain America and from Ultimate Captain America, to put together one hell of a look for the movie. I heard some people complain about the absence of the famous "white head wings" missing from the costume, or even the fact that the costume looked a little bit like the Captain America from the 1970's TV Movies staring Reb Brown, well let me tell you, anyone who compares the costume design of this movie to the Reb Brown costume should have there heads examined. The suit/costume itself borrowed elements from Classic and Ultimate Cap, and in order to not make the movie CAMPY, the design team in my view did an excellent job.(NOTE: remember the direct to video Captain America Movie from the 90's...nuff said). 5 out of 5 stars for this category
SHOOTING STYLE/DIRECTING (5/5): Hats off to Joe Johnston! he did an incredible job directing this movie. The shooting locations used for the movie were excellent, and he did a tremendous job with shooting the action scenes, as well as the battle scenes for the movie. Marvel made the right choice in regards to who should direct this film. Having a man who worked with Lucas and Spielberg on there past films, was perfect. I remember when they first announced this movie as being in development, I always said to my friends "They should get Spielberg to direct this movie due to his experience shooting past World War II era movies, or someone who worked with him", and well, Marvel did just that. Hands down and no question, 5 out of 5 stars for this category.
OVERALL FOR THE MOVIE (5/5): This movie overall gets a well earned and deserved 5 out of 5 stars. This movie in my view, is the best movie of the summer hands down and is, and should be, ranked #1. For anyone who has not seen this movie yet, go see it, it is worth every penny. (NOTE: Stay for EVERYTHING, especially after the credits, you will not be disappointed ::wink, wink:: )
