Promoting Pain and Gain, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely sat with Collider to further discuss their contributions to Marvel Studios’ forthcoming films Thor: The Dark World & Captain America: The Winter Soldier. With the latter sequel commencing filming recently, the duo scribes talk about being on-set, the return of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Chris Evans hitting the gym, Easter eggs, flashbacks and its place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” picks up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C. Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Maximiliano Hernández with Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is directed by the team of Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch, production designer Peter Wenham, editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for release on April 4, 2014. In addition to “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers” sequel on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

All these people who are saying, "Blonsky was better than Cap"? I'll tell you the biggest and best difference. The Hulk flicked a finger at Blonsky and sent him hurtling into a tree, smashing every bone in his body. Cap raised a finger to the Hulk and said, "Hulk? Smash," and the Hulk spent the next five to seven minutes wiping out dozens of alien invaders.

Kevin said two words and we changed the direction.

I'm guessing Winter Soldier are the two words.

re: the setting up of Steve Rogers' character, I hope they do this well because the 40 minutes or so it took to tell the "skinny guy" story in the first movie was the best thing about the movie.

All Phase 2 movies are gonna decimate their Phase 1 counterparts specifically because they don't have to tell the origin stories anymore.

@ nomis
@ intruder

do you guys remember the classic avengers west coast storyline vision quest which ran from issues 42-50.

basically

-immortus abducted the vision & dismantled him

-the avengers recovered the parts

-hank pym built a new vision(white)

-wonder man said pym couldn't use his brain patterns for this android

-the original human torch returned from the dead casting doubts on the visions identity

i believe they got round this by saying something along the lines that he was built by the the original human torch's spare parts so they could both co-exist in the same timeline.

bnash- Blonski's feats. Outrunning soldiers, dodging attacks by hulk, getting smashed into paste.

caps feats. outrunning a car, outswimming a submarine, bending a steel bar, jumping over a ten foot fence, jumping over a thirty foot exploding chasm, throwing a hydra soldier fifteen feet over a tank, holding a motorcycle over his head with three people sitting on it, taking a full on shot from thor, going one on one with loki without injury, defeating another super soldier in the red skull, pulling a hydra soldier out of a tank and tossing him in the air with one arm, jumping off a motorcycle and doing a flip over a tank etc etc.

should be excellent then, Caps's one of my favorite superheroes (along with Spider-man & Wolverine, top 3) I really hope they do him justice this time around, I agree with alot of other people that Cap's full potential still hasn't been explored.

This political thriller arc to the movie might make it pretty interesting though, oh and don't forget about the concept art pic of cap in mid air charging toward a helicopter shield first just in case any of you are still thinking the movie will have underwhelming, quick cut "Bourne" action!

Look at the video from 2:50 to 2:59.

A major between the lines reveal.

The dude on the left talks about how the MCU carefully plans its cinematic universe in advance without conflicts in storylines EXCEPT to blow your mind. The guy on the right looks over, opens his eyes, and smiles.

I think we are going to see a major surprise down the line.

The whole why doesn't hero x, y, or z call the Avengers now when he/she is in trouble makes zero sense when you think about it. The Avengers are a broadsword, not a scalpel. You only use them when shit is about to hit Apocalyptic levels because no one single hero can face it alone.

For example, do the NYC police call the National Guard when they are trying to put a mobster away? No, because they know a paramilitary force isn't well equipped to handle felon type crimes. Instead, the cops will call the National Guard when there is a mass riot, a major natural disaster, terrorist attack, etc. because a paramilitary is well designed to handle the mass-level threat.
