For a very long time, Carol Danvers went by the Ms. Marvel moniker and it wasn't until she became Captain Marvel that the hero finally got a uniform that didn't show off 90% of her body. A lot of fans were disappointed by that change but no one was really surprised when it was revealed that Brie Larson wouldn't be wearing a skimpy outfit in Captain Marvel.
When Ms. Marvel first received her own solo series, she was decked out in a similar colour scheme to Mar-Vell and most of her midriff and back were exposed along with the majority of her legs. When Carol donned her most iconic costume, though, it was basically a black swimsuit with thigh high boots and a pretty significant emphasis on her breasts.
In a new interview, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige weighed in on the reason for the change.
"If you look at the comics, the further you go back, the less clothes Carol Danvers seems to be wearing," he explained. "Oftentimes it's a one-piece bathing suit basically, with outrageous comic proportions. … Brie pointed it out on the wall, and we went, 'Yeah … just so you know, that's not what we're doing.' She goes, 'OK. I didn't think so, but I'm glad you said that.'"
So, Larson was clearly never going to wear that type of costume and it doesn't sound like it was ever the plan on Feige's end, either! For some reason, the actress is coming under fire from a lot of male comic book fans and it wouldn't be at all surprising if she's now blamed for one of the character's earlier costumes being brought to the big screen next month.
