A Possible Sony Redemption?

Can Sony Pictures save itself???

I ask this question and would like a serious response. Is there anything that can save Sony Pictures at this point? Now there are several reasons I raise attention to the question, so obviously let’s start with the one first on most people's mind: Will Sony ever give Spider-Man back to Marvel Studios (or get a Spider-Man movie right) and second, will the recent leak of unreleased Sony movies harm the company enough that people start to shy away from them? I have read letter after letter, review after review, and BLOG response after BLOG response, and it seems to me that Sony already has very little chance of regaining many of these fans.

Now let me tell you my side of it, and then we will get into it a little bit further. First off, I love Sony they've done great things with many a movie franchise. Okay so they haven't handled their super-hero movies well, but for every comic book failure I can name a good SPE release. For example Amazing Spider-Man was far from the best, but that same year we got 21 Jump Street, Amazing Spider-Man 2, most would say an epic failure, well we got Monument Men in the same year. What saddens me is that a Comic Book Movie (noted as CBM from here on out) or series, is largely what determines if a production company succeeds or fails in this current day and age. I love a good CBM as much as the next guy, but it shouldn't make or break anyone or anything (no matter what the fanboy in all of us say).

Sony is currently in talks to work with Marvel on the new Civil-War film, (will it happen? I say most likely not) will this be the thing that allows people to fall in love with Sony again? Imagine this: Sony works with Marvel on the Spidey/Civil-War series, and in doing so Sony finally starts following the Marvel story lines that Peter Parker should have been following from the get go (Spectacular Spider-Man anyone?). I truly believe this could work out.

A connection with Marvel would allow Sony to improve on Ghost Rider as well as Spider-Man, Venom, and The Sinister Six. Why do I say this? It allows Disney/Marvel to keep moving as planned and not get bogged down with even more Heroes/Villains. Sony is obviously trusting Marvel and vice-versa to a certain extent or they wouldn't even be entertaining talks in the Civil-War landscape.

In my fantasy world Marvel works hand in hand with Sony, makes some money off each other, and in doing so improve such series as Spider-Man and Ghost Rider. Leaving Marvel and Disney to make their billions off of their tiered MCU, while at the same time leasing out works that could also be great if done correctly.

Will we ever see this? Not likely, but as a true CBM fan I have to admit this would work for me. Fox is doing really well with the X series (my opinion), and I only see it getting better if they can get the continuity all worked out. Yes it’s a dream, and a far fetched one, but can you blame a comic book fan for dreaming? Marvel/Disney I ask that you work out something to where you can help Fox and Sony improve the Marvel series they have, while at the same time make it to where everyone wins! Sony open up your eyes anything that Marvel/Disney does for you, is Money in the Bank (and if you let them help, put's money in their pockets making them even more likely to help in the future)! Fox keep doing what you’re doing, improve the X series, but at the same time I do ask that you drop the stupid mutant copyright. It’s not helping you in anyway, but maybe, just maybe if you help Marvel by allowing them the mutant tag line as well… Maybe they would help you!

What’s to lose, it’s win/win/win for Marvel/Disney, Fox, and Sony if they just do it the right way! So is there a chance for a Sony pardon? Yes there is, but Sony needs to get started on it ASAP, and not let this Civil-War fan dream fall through! Any thoughts on this?

At a recent convention it was stated, "It's not a bad thing to have other companies working on Marvel IP's as that allows us to focus on what we've been working on, and keep us from getting bogged down. They just need to get them right!" I think what this means is that if these companies can come to some sort of agreement, all these stories could end up rolling together, there is nothing wrong with a little outside help. Even more so with the fact that if they work with Disney/Marvel to improve the story lines, it's money in the D/M pocket book that wouldn't be there, for the fact that Fox and Sony don't have to share a damn thing if they don't want to!

Why not just make it work out for all of us fans, and the companies themselves, we would get great movies, they would all make a lot of cash, and us fans would get great movie after great movie... Just my opinion!

Since it is knowned that Sony has money issue's as a hole like they have, i say that Spidey is about to come home. The question is just when and how.

It is either
1. Sony force them to sell the rights or colaborate with Marvel.
2. Sony goes just to be Sony Playstation and sells the rights/change the movierights to gamerights, since SP is their one really bankable part of the company
3.Sony goes under as a hole and Marvel gets the right from there

4. They do give in to the 60/40 deal

My first post and since it was more in regards to comic book movies, that is how it ended up here, I tried to change it a different section but, I just have a lot to learn on this site. My hope is to get this away from the click bait stigma, and have opinion posts. I apologize for that, but my hope is that it was a good read, and my as I learn to use the site I will stop making these small errors. I am sorry @destroyalltroll

Why do you keep bringing up Ghost Rider? Marvel has his rights back.

I really liked the Amazing Spider-Man movies. So this sucks. I won't get to see the next step in the story, so I'm disappointed. Now, having said that, if I had to choose between another Amazing Spider-Man movie, or Spider-Man in the MCU, I'm going with the MCU. Why you ask? Am I a traitor? Don't really care what anyone thinks of my choice. The fact is I have got to see Spider-Man go solo in five films. I would love to see Spider-Man in a world with other heroes. I love when the character interacts with other Superheroes. It really allows for his characteristics to shine.

I think Sonys best move would be to just sell or even just rent the character to Marvel like they did Kingpin in the old Daredevil film. It would be stupid for Sony to launch another reboot in the next couple years. And from what I understand about character rights, you can't just sit on them. You have to have something in production. Now I could of heard wrong, but then how come we have seen companies rush movies just to keep the rights? The chances of Marvel making a deal with sharing Spider-Man went out the window with these leaked e mails. For Sony to think that Marvel will let them use characters from the MCU in a Spider-Man flick, just so Marvel can have him in a cameo? Why would Marvel do that? It's desperation on this woman's part and you can see it in her e mails. Just read em. We would have two different Spider-Mans in two different films. That would have no connection continuity wise. Why would Marvel make a deal that puts one of their characters in Sonys hands? They wouldn't. Marvel also won't let Sony make an MCU Spider-Man movie for them. Meaning Sony would make a film that takes place in the MCU. Why? Cause they don't want another studio to screw up their well established Cinematic Universe Continuity. So, sell or rent out Sony. There's your options. I'm really disappointed in you.

and likewise, anyone who immediately got excited at the prospect of another actor as Peter Parker, every supporting character getting re-cast, and a storyline that closely follows Kraven's Last Hunt is a cottonheaded ninnymuggins.

I've been thinking... When exactly did we stop calling Sony Columbia Pictures?

Ghost Rider was more an example of what could happen to Spider-Man, which is why I bring it up. And Wylee Jay I am not calling you a traitor that is just actually the reason of this piece, it is an editorial opinion piece. I was just wanting to see what people want from it. I really would like to see other companies get some of these right. Like I said a Marvel rep did say that it doesn't hurt having others help out with the MCU as Marvel and Disney are being smashed with all the movies they are currently working on, they just really need to learn to work together and make money together and for that happen, the movies would just get better and better in my opinion. I appreciate the thumbs up and for my first piece, it will only get better from here on out, I guarantee that!

I got to admit, I thought it was pretty cool to get an email stating: "I don't totally agree with your article, but at least it was worth reading and wasn't bullshit click bait." That makes me feel pretty good lol... I agree with the Garfield comment, I am not huge on the super douche Spider-Man. Appreciate all the comments and any criticism is welcome (to an extent).

Sony does not need any redemption. The studio only had to let go off the rights to Spider-Man so that Marvel can treat the character with respect.

Zues this will not happen, it just won't... Unless D/M offers and ungodly amount of money

Ok, first of all, Monuments Men was a huge disappointment. And I refuse to watch the Jump Street movies on the general principle that any TV show that had Johnny Depp should not be turned into a movie (plus they just looked stupid.)

Personally, I don't care about Spiderman, and would be perfectly fine with never seeing Spiderman in a movie again. And I don't want him in Civil War; I want it to focus on Cap and Stark, and having Spidey in it would take away from that. (I don't give a rip about following comic storylines, and in fact hope they don't follow the comic very closely at all. In fact, I'm hoping they are just using the Civil War name and that the movie will be more Stark vs. Cap than one group vs. another group.)

Oh, and @tucksthehalls, ummm......how can I put this.....you're not the brightest star in the sky. Just saying.

Sony is suffering from the Spidey curse. Like the Chicago Cubs.

And yeah, I remember when Feige said they were OK with other studios working on some characters outside the MCU. Like he said they have a lot on their plate. But what about ten years from now? After all these characters have had sequels? If Marvel got the chance to 8ntroduce Spider-Man or X men later on I'm sure they would really start gunning for them. The only reason these talks are happening now for Spider-Man is because Sony is getting themselves into a deep hole, and they may need Marvel's help getting out.

This could end up being something really good because they could end up in a situation where all of their ideas are out there for the public to see and the public can literally tell them what movies to make. Right now the F4 script for fox, had that been leaked ahead of time I guarantee that movie wouldn't have been made. Just based on the reaction by the public to the synopsis. Now we have to wait for the film, but as a comic book fan I'm offended because it completely takes a dump on the source material. Now Sony can look at the reaction and say "Hey people like this idea, don't like this, let's go with what people like, it will give us more first weekend viewers at the very least."
