Dan Slott has kicked off the newest
Spider-Man event comic, titled
"The Clone Conspiracy". Issue #1 was released yesterday, and contained plenty of twists and turns, including the death of Aunt May's husband, Jay Jameson and the official return of
Doctor Octopus in his full glory on the issue's last page.
One of the biggest twists, however, takes place in a ten page backup story written by Slott and drawn by artist Ron Frenz. The story, titled "The Night I Died", flashes back to
Gwen Stacy's death at the hands of the Green Goblin in the iconic
Amazing Spider-Man #121. In what is sure to be a controversial twist, Slott reveals that Gwen was still conscious moments before her death, and overhears that Peter was actually Spider-Man, who she blamed for the death of her father, George Stacy.
The issue later reveals that both Gwen and her father have been revived by the Jackal, supposedly for real this time, and not as clones, due to a procedure from the mysterious corporation,
New U; could the pair be back in the Marvel Universe to stay by the end of the event? Only time will tell. Issue #2 of "
The Clone Conspiracy" releases on November 2nd.
