COMICS: DC Hilariously Trolls Fans On April Fool's Day By Promising Every Superhero Is Getting Trunks

We know that Superman is getting his iconic red trunks back following Action Comics #1000 but now DC Comics is promising that the rest of the Justice League will join him! Only on April Fool's Day, folks.

Bizarrely, one of the most controversial changes to the DC Universe during 2011's New 52 reboot was the decision to remove Superman's iconic (?) red trunks. They've been a staple of the character's appearance since day one and while they don't make a whole lot of sense, comic book fans were understandably upset when they were taken away. Now, seven years later, they're coming back!

That's going to happen in the pages of Action Comics #1000 and with April Fool's Day in full swing, DC has promised that every member of the Justice League is getting a redesign and some new trunks!

Surprisingly, this works better with some characters than others but in case it wasn't apparent from following the link in the Tweet below, this is most definitely just a joke. In fact, here's an excerpt:

The character redesigns will be an integral component in a special one-shot, DC UNIVERSE: INFINITE TRUNKS #1, following the April 18 release of ACTION COMICS #1000. The must-read issue will introduce the reworked costumes, which tie into a larger mystery involving the Multiverse that will be explored in JUSTICE LEAGUE: NO JUSTICE, a special JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK storyline titled “Unite the Trunks,” and the JUSTICE LEAGUE ODYSSEY crossover “A Lot More Trunks.”

What we do know is that Brian Michael Bendis is taking over Superman's adventures this year and that he may end up killing off Lois Lane and Jonathan Kent, her and Clark's son. Are you excited for Superman's trunks to make a long overdue comeback? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

Somehow the Batman with trunks shown above doesn't work as well. Go figure.

Still I hope this return of the trunks isn't permanent. The current Superman outfit is in my opinion perfect as it is.

@Nerdman3000 - Yeah. Personally I like both designs just fine. The problem is that we've made such a big deal out of the trunks, which is such a minor design change, that it basically forces a lack of creative freedom moving forward.

Aquaman: Bruce the water isn't cold, get in.

Bruce: Na....I'm good right here.

@BritishMonkey - Of course. Everyone saying we need to bring Superman's trunks were talking about Trunks from Dragon Ball. It all makes sense now.

Re-watched Superman Returns for the first time as an adult today (I was 13 when it first came out). I feel Routh pulled off the trunks pretty well.

@RageDriver2401 - I don't remember the scene where he pulled his trunks off. Are we watching the same Superman movies?

Lol, whoever came up with that has a pretty good sense of humor

Also disappointed that once they perfected (imo) Superman’s suit in Rebirth they almost immediately reverted.

@ELAYEM - Best of both worlds for me in that suit. No trunks, but also no overly busy lines all over the suit and a Reeve style curl.

@ELAYEM - Agreed. I hope they incorporate this into the DC Films incarnation of the uniform. It's the best of both worlds.

@InfinitySkrull - Those three being Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Wonder Woman, in case you're wondering.

You can't really tell Wonder Woman is wearing any, because of the way they went about her's.

Aquaman's look like shorts and his out of the group look the best.

Wonder Woman?

Honestly they should have given her pants with the trunks over it.

Cyborg actually doesn't look bad. Comes off as a metallic red connection.

Personally I wish Superman wasn't getting the trunks back. The latest suit solved all the problems.
