He's young, he's green, he comes of age in a cynical world and isn't afraid to take the fight to anyone that he finds corrupt, even if that means operating above the law. He's writer Grant Morrison and artist Rags Morales' rebooted new Superman, in the Man of Steel's first major updating of the iconic character in 25 years. The new, crusading Superman debuts Sept. 7th from DC Comics in Action Comics #1, what the the publisher calls the "cornerstone" of its "New 52" line-wide relaunch of their superhero universe.

Here comes the Red-Blue blur again. First they make the new Green Arrow look like the Smallville one and now this.

Nothing like destroying city roads at the expense of the tax payer while encouraging stray bullets from cops to show what a hero you are. Good thing Donald Sutherland didn't have a heart attack on the way down. Morrison is better than this.

The Reboot has only had 1 issue out(for Justice League). So you need to wait after they release the damn stories to know whats going on. But from this scene I would think its obvious. Superman is just starting out so he has a makeshift costume that evolves into the armored uniform. Why do people fail to get that Superman's outfit will evolve from the street clothes into the new uniform?

In my opinion since they decided to have him more Kryptonian than Earthling, Clark Kent doesn't exist anymore.

Hate the tshirt and jeans look. And what's with the new attitude? I think Stifler should play superman in the movie based off this. He acts like Spiderman or something

It's supposed to be Clarks very early years before he becomes Superman. He is still skeptical of fighting crime in a costume and saving the world blah blah. So This is supes just taking any form of costume and testing being a superhero out. No matter what you guy's say you have to admit Morrison knows how to write Supes he get's the character.

Something like this wouldnt work in a court of law anyway, he used coercion to get a confession.

He has pants in his early career because he hasnt quite figured on a costume yet. At least that what i gathered at comicon. I think its stupid but if it gives a concise explanation to his final suit, im open to find out.

But this TAKE on Superman doesnt feel like superman. Feels like a crappy copy of Batman. Warner wants to make Superman darker. Which is stupid. He is the light to Batmans dark.

Superman does not nor should he use fear... he uses hope. WTF

@Catwoman1
It is Clark when he is first beginning. He does not have the Iconic suit yet because he is not yet Superman. He did not yet take the full responsibility of becoming a real Superhero. It is almost like "The Blur" from smallville.

It's not that bad. It looks pretty cool, actually. I love the Fleischer reference on the Jim Lee cover. This seems to be going back to the old skool, '30s Supes, Siegal and Shuster style.

As a long time Supes fan... I love this!

A new take on Superman's character and the primary attitude? He HATES bullies! Looking out for the underdog. I think this is awesome!

I've always wondered why superheros clothes are ...super hero impervious. They're just regular clothes so where's the damage? The only superheros who account for this is the Fantastic Four who's uniforms are made with unstable molecules. Jus'sayin'.
The panels are average btw.

awesome..like the quick throwback to the golden age attitude of superman. He wasn't friends with the cops, he was a bit more on the vigilante side of things. This is pretty cool if they plan on trying to summarize the different phases of superman (from a bit more rough around the edges golden age to today) then this could be really cool. i mean it seems that he doesn't realize he can fly yet.

@headlopper - that is exactly why Jim Lee gave Superman armor... he was saying yeah superman is bullet proof, but every time he fights hed have bullet holes all over his costume.
So the Kryptonian armor is to protect his outfit not him

WHAT in the blue hell is THAT? This article is exactly right- this isn't "my father's Superman". Well, he sure isn't MY Superman either. In fact, he isn't Superman at all- he's f*cking Batman with powers. I'd expect to see Batman interacting with cops or with a bad guy like this, but NOT Superman. Has he gotten into the red kryptonite again?

This poison is trying to make Superman as 'dark and gritty' as Batman, and it just doesn't fit the character at all. Is there a scene in here where Superman demands that the cops or city officials kneel before him? That's all that's missing.

This isn't aweful, and i dig that they are going way back to the firs version of Superman. But this feels a lil like Batman instead of superman. Then again i haven't read the whole issue and it wouldn't be fair to judge the whole comic based on only a few pages.

Well it is an interesting approach from what I saw. I wonder if the Sups reboot is in part for a way for WB/DC to keep rights on Sups if the creators' families regain the original concept they're fighting for?
