COMICS: First Look At Kenneth Rocafort's Take On SUPERMAN

Superman has been one of most negatively received books of "The New 52". Having made its way through two creative teams, DC are now hoping that writer Scott Lobdell and artist Kenneth Rocafort can turn things around. Hit the jump to take a look at his version of the Man of Steel.

Thanks to Newsarama, we have this first look at Kenneth Rocafort's take on Superman. The new creative team (who have already collaborated on Red Hood and the Outlaws as a part of "The New 52") will take charge of the book with this September's Superman #0, an issue which promises to take us back to the days when Jor-El learned the truth about Krypton’s imminent destruction. The following image was featured on the cover of the new issue of Diamond's Previews. Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

Cool, modern, I like it. Things have to progress with time or else be forgotten.

Still looks too young to me, and I dislike Lobdell's writing.

@DanteSparda

John Byrne depowered Superman perfectly back in the late 80s after he had grown to powerful prior to that and his stories grew stale(sound familiar). He actually had better stories but for some reason the powers that be at DC decided to make him overpowered again in the 90s up to now.

Still looks a bit too "Smallville" for my tastes but it is an improvement from the first few issues of the New 52, the suit looks less like an action figure here than when the series started.

So I have a question....

DC got rid of the red trunks because they were "Silly" but kept a belt where one is not required. If its not used for function, does that make the belt a fashion accessory? Does Superman have different belts for different events?

@bubba27

It's nothing compared to how DC powered up Flash making him basically the most powerful character in DC.

Yes... even more powerful than Batman now ;P

@CaptainAmerica1945 I think it's just an aesthetic choice, the trunks had to go because they were apparently outdated and the original reference of them referring to 1930s circus strongmen is somewhat outdated now people thanks to Superman and Batman see the whole "underwear on the outide" thing as a superhero cliche. But anyway I think the belt is still there to add some color to the suit and stop it from looking like a giant, armored onesie.
JDUKE25
JDUKE25 - 6/15/2012, 3:54 PM
@CaptainAmerica1945 I'd say it's still used to hold his pants in place. He didn't wear the belt before to keep just his underwear from falling down. Do you wear a belt under your pants to make sure your underwear stays up?
