If you're looking for an alternative to
Rebirth and the upcoming
Dark Nights: Metal, perhaps
Nightwing: The New Order is just what the doctor ordered? Set to kick off on August 23, 2017, writer Kyle Higgins and artist Trevor McCarthy imagine a
DC Universe 12 years in the future where Nightwing sets out to remove all superpowered individuals from the playing field - regardless of whether they're friend or foe.
However, it seems the "
New Order" Dick Grayson creates is suddenly out of his control and targeting someone close to him according to the synopsis (see below). And if you look at the second cover, the figure with their back to us certainly looks like a miniature Dick Grayson who also has the powers of Starfire. Perhaps the heir apparent to the cape-and-cowl and the Princess of Tamaran had a son and now this "New Order" is out to take him down?
Over on Twitter, Higgins has confirmed that the miniseries runs for six issues, it's tonally comparable to
Superman: Red Son and that
Grayson doesn't kill anyone, just de-powers them.
ABOUT NIGHTWING: THE NEW ORDER
DC Comics presents a story of a future world without “weapons”—where superpowers have been eliminated and outlawed. The man responsible? None other than Dick Grayson, a.k.a. Nightwing, now leader of a government task force called the Crusaders who are charged with hunting the remaining Supers. But when events transpire which turn the Crusaders’ aim toward Grayson’s own family, the former Boy Wonder must turn against the very system he helped create, with help from the very people he’s been hunting for years—the last metahumans of the DC Universe.
