More From Geoff Johns On Green Lantern and Wonder Woman!

The comic book writer talks more about his role with the upcoming Green Lantern movie and briefly expresses his interest in a Wonder Woman adaptation...

In an interview with IGN about his comic book work, Johns was asked about his new role as Chief Creative Officer at DC and went on to talk a little more about his interest in bringing characters like Green Lantern and Blue Beetle to life on the big and small screen. Most interesting perhaps was the fact he also singled out Wonder Woman while talking about the above two projects which are being filmed and in development respectively. Could this simply be his interest in seeing a WW movie showing or a slip of the tongue that indicates one is already in the works? Have a read below and be sure to have your say in the usual place!

"Beyond writing my books, my job is to get these characters exposed to as many people as possible in the best way possible. My goal starts with working on the Green Lantern film and all the theatrical animated projects we have coming up."

"It's really exciting and fun to do this. Whether we're talking about characters like Green Lantern, Blue Beetle or Wonder Woman, I want to see all of them out there on a bigger stage. I want my brother's kids to love the DC Universe as much as we do. Same goes for the general public. The more Green Lantern and Wonder Woman and Blue Beetle projects we see beyond the comics, the happier I'll be."

"My main focus, however, has been big picture stuff, like the Green Lantern movie. I just got back from New Orleans, where we're shooting. And I saw Sinestro. In person. Fans will be happy."

HAWKS: Thanks bud! That's a good point and I think they might of actually! However, I honestly couldnt remember while I was writing this partly because it's 3am here in the UK, lol, and I just dont tend to keep up with DC movie news (apart from Superman and Batman) as much as I do with Marvel so can never remember things like that! :P

I think the main reason why they haven't made a Wonder Woman movie is they can't find the perfect actress for the role. I think the best way to approach it is to cast an unknown rather than Sandra Bullock or Megan Fox.

I would love to see a Martian Manhunter movie. I want to see one really badly.

For the most part, I think you're right. I think the Sandra Bullock or Megan Fox suggestion mostly germinated in the fan realm rather than being legitimate rumor amongst the studio heads. I don't think find a woman for WW would be any more difficult than finding the perfect man to play Supes. The trick is, finding a woman that knows how to throw real convincing blows (hand and foot).

Nice find Josh! Way to crank one out at 3AM!

Wonder Woman is a difficult role to cast. But a WW movie could potentially be epic, if done with respect.

With Johns on the front lines of the DC movie universe charge, hopefully we do get to see more movies based on characters that aren't Batman or Superman (ahem, FLASH, ahem). And I concur, a Martian Manhunter film would be sweetness.

@ airbender18: Google/youtube Bridget Regan, you won't be sorry. And I agree that a Martian Manhunter film would be sweet.

Johns' has been pimping out Blue Beetle a lot lately due to that effects test, hopefully he mentioned Wonder Woman because something is in the works for that character too. Who knows, maybe WB/DCE has taken notice of Director Nicholas Winding Refn's interest in the project.

I say give Refn & Regan a shot..... "Wonder Woman, Summer 2013" sounds good to me.

What about Megan Gale who was attached to the dumped JLA movie? I would think she's still the top pick.

DannyDreg
DannyDreg - 6/19/2010, 8:09 PM
^ I heard her acting isn't that great. I want an ACTRESS to play WW, NOT a model.

Bridget Regan can act and has experience with fight choreography, horseback riding, and action/fantasy material. ;)

fanboiii
fanboiii - 6/19/2010, 8:18 PM
She's about average height though, but other than that, I think Bridget Regan is a good pick and the right age.

Are the Amazons tall height something DC made up? I can't find anything about the mythic Amazons being tall. They should probably ditch the height thing because it would be difficult casting all tall athletic women in all the Amazon roles. It's more symbolic anyway.
Timerider84
Timerider84 - 6/19/2010, 8:25 PM
DannyDreg, I second that. She's a very good actress, and I would prefer her acting and her looks to Megan Gale. She is 5'8" tall, with heels and lifts a good 5'11. I say give her a chance.

JoshCharmley - 6/19/2010, 8:30 PM
I Agree with airbender I would LOVE to see a martian Manhunter Movie, That would kick so much A$s.

I think Maggie Siff could play WW.
TheDARKestKNIGHT
TheDARKestKNIGHT - 6/19/2010, 8:34 PM
I would love to see a WW movie done correctly. A feel like the movie Gladiator for the grounded realistic effect. This might be absurd to some of you guys but how about the chick that played Trinity from the Matrix movies to play Diana. I know she may not be the prettiest but I think she could totally pull off the warrior Amazon look and she can actually act in my opinion.
DannyDreg
DannyDreg - 6/19/2010, 8:35 PM
I believe Regan is 5'9'', besides I'd gladly take talent over height when it somes to casting Wonder Woman.

Yes, the Amazons in Greek mythology had height and were muscular....but they also would have one of their breasts removed so they could have better control of their bows & arrows. LOL, I'm not making that up!
UncleDrew
UncleDrew - 6/19/2010, 8:35 PM
Rhona Mitra would be a great Wonder Woman. She is a strong female, can act, and would handle any male character, just like Wonder Woman.

I think that our own Lady Sif, Jaime Alexander, could be a great Wonder Woman. Regan's a good possibility as well.
Timerider84
Timerider84 - 6/19/2010, 8:47 PM
Why not have all these women in the movie, but one Amazonian stand above all others. I really like Regan, but if someone better came along, then by all means. Should be cool to see ALL these women fighting side by side in their warrior outfits.
odie00
odie00 - 6/19/2010, 8:55 PM
hell yeah sinistro does not sound disappointing at all. i was wanting a flash movie before wonder woman but oh well. yeah they need her to be at least 5'9 to 5'11. wonder woman is 5'11. but someone who is a couple inches shorter wouldnt hurt. and yes i want someone who can do a decent job and isnt just a pretty face.
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 6/19/2010, 9:04 PM
I love Bridget Regan! She is 5'8", so that is at the bottom end of the stature I would like to see for WW, but definitely acceptable. Unfortunately, I just don't think she has quite the right look for Wonder Woman. Not quite sure what it is...too pale and frail looking perhaps, even though she can kick butt, she needs to look the part of WW. Perhaps a good toning routine would help.

I still don't get how they can talk about and already have test footage for Blue Beetle when you have much more recognizable and marketable DC characters like WW, Martian Manhunter and Flash. At least they are only looking at a TV series for BB.
fanboiii
fanboiii - 6/19/2010, 9:09 PM
In a way, all the matters is the height of the guys in the movie. Gwyneth Paltrow looks like an Amazon next to RDJ. :P
Upupandaway
Upupandaway - 6/19/2010, 9:33 PM
I concur with the Martian Manhunter suggestions. He has a great tragic story.

I'd love to see WW. @Ranger- They just don't make WW type women in Hollywood. 300 training for the ladies would be just fine for any actress.

@Igirl- The Question would be a great series. I think it would be great to have Renee Montoya on the show as a cop and eventually get to the cancer/handing over the mantle thing. Comedy, mystery, action, and lesbians: you can't go wrong there. : )

@ TANKGIRL - I have to agree with teabag, WW needs to be atractive. If we are going by physical presence alone, we might as well cast this guy

Good find Josh@!

Wonder Woman is not big and scary like
Kim Director nor is she tiny like Sarah
Shahi but Sarah can star as Wonder Woman
in my bedroom, anytime! lol

I'm sure glad they are finally mentioning
Wonder Woman over at DC/WARNERS. They need
to get on the stick and churn out a Flash,
Wonder Woman, and new Supes movie pronto!

They need to catch up with Marvel and hurry
up and work towards that JLA movie!

I like Bridget Reagan for WW cuz she already
knows how to fight on-screen and now she's
100% available cuz the bastards canceled
LEGEND OF THE SEEKER! How come every time I
like a show they cancel it! I think I'm a jinx!

I liked Flash Forward...canceled, I liked
Legend of the Seeker...canceled, I liked Firefly
...canceled! I think I'm gonna stop watching and
liking HUMAN TARGET and FRINGE! Dammit! And no...
I don't think I'm the center of the universe but
I swear I'm a damm JINX!

Also Colby Smulders is a veteran actress and
is the spitting image of Wonder Woman! She's
now my favorite. She's 5'9" and in high heels
and lifts she is towering! And she's as sexy
as hell!!!

WW 100
DDD
DDD - 6/20/2010, 6:06 AM
Jessica Lowndes is another very good candidate!
Man she's hot!!!

But Rhona Mitra is too old and scary looking to
play Wonder Woman! She's playing a mean and nasty
woman on Stargate: Universe right now and man, is
she perfectly frightening!!!
DDD
DDD - 6/20/2010, 6:16 AM
Another woman who is just starting to act is
Gina Carano! She is sexy and part Italian
and there is no question she knows how to fight!
lol

To me she fits WW great! She just would have to
wear blue contacts but that ain't no thang!
She is starring right now in Knockout about a
tough girl who becomes a black ops type agent.
It should be out soon cuz they wrapped filming
back in the early spring.

But Kim Director is kind of manly-looking
in the face!

Here's more Gina...she's pretty!
