Prepare to do battle with all-new Kaiju creatures in this thrilling continuation of the Pacific Rim Universe
The series comes from writer Joshua Fialkov (The Bunker, I, Vampire, Doctor Who) and features artwork by Marcos Marz (Batman Confidential, Blackest Night: JSA). Variant covers by fan favorite mech artists Whilce Portacio, Pat Lee, Francis Manapul and Livio Ramondelli.

CBM: Tell us little about Pacific Rim: Tales from the drift?

Joshua:  It is a story before the movie, a story about one of the Jaegers that we get a glimpse of in the movie but we don’t actually  get to spend a lot of time with in the film.  What I wanted to do and am excited to do is that I am working with a story by  Travis Beacham and Guillermo Del Toro worked on as well it is getting to work with in their universe. The thing that is mostly exciting is that we get to explore is the drift. The drift is where 2 people get to be choosen to be Jaeger pilots. Jaeger pilots have to work together thier minds short of interlock and it takes all their power to pilot one of these gigantic robots.  When I saw this movie I loved the idea that you are sharing your brain in the most intimate way humanly possible, your letting another person climb into your head.  The questions are what happens if it’s a person you love  or what happens if it’s a person you hate. With in the story of the book we get to see what happens with those two scenarios where we get to meet our 2 characters and we get see how they go from hating each other to loving each other and becoming this symbiotic creature.

CBM: Are there  new Jaegers introduced in this book?

Joshua: Yes the main two pilots in the book that we have not seen in the movie. It was fun because part of their journey is their relationship. In the story they are two different people from different countries, and they have very little in common. When we meet them they are the best of the best. To be a Jaeger pilot you have to be amazing. These two have found each other and have become amazing together.

CBM: What impact did Guillermo Del Toro have on writing this book?

Joshua: Guillermo was the creative force and Travis who wrote the movie. They worked on the story together before they even brought me in. I think what the two of them bring is a complete understanding of the world . Guillermo has such specific ideas on how things work within the universe and how that happens. So when writing a comic book we get to explore and play with it.

CBM: How was it working with Marco Marz?

Joshua: Marco is amazing and a super talented guy and our colorist, Marcello we worked together off and on for abot 7 years now. It is fun working with the two of them we are part of a team. It’s been really satisfying working on this book because Legendary is about creavitve source. Getting to work in an environment like that is really all about how do we make it the best and stay true to Guillermo’s vision and Travis and my vision its super satisfying and a great place to work.

CBM: What is your favorite comic book you have written?

Joshua: I do a book called the Bunker it’s an ongoing series and is about a group of friends that find a military bunker. The Bunker contains letters from their future selves telling them that they are going to cause the apocalypse. What happens is one by one they have to make decisions about their life’s. Are they going to give up all their hopes and dreams and theoretically destroy the world or if they are going to be selfish dicks and doom us all. I will give you a hint it is: selfish dicks .

CBM: Is there anything else you would like to tell us about Pacific Rim before we finish?

Joshua: I hope people check it out and I love it. I'm so proud of it. I really think the work Marcos and I did is worthy of the movie and I think people will enjoy it if they give it a chance.

@dethpillow as a movie it had countless flaws, but something about "it" was just special for me. The IMAX 3D action was the second best I've ever seen (after Avatar).

But I think part of what you said is very true. It opened the door nicely, but there's SO much more that you can do... and I hope it happens. Would be awesome!
