Mark Millar Sets Up Charity Auction For Fans To Have STARLIGHT Character Named After Them

The first couple of issues of Mark Millar and Goran Parlov's new Image Comics series Starlight have been a hit, and now the writer is offering one lucky fan the chance to take part in a charity auction in order to have a character named after them in both the comic book and planned big screen adaptation.

Dave Lizewski is a name familiar to us all thanks to the success of the Kick-Ass comic books and movies, but did you know that he was named after a fan who took part in a charity auction? Well, just as now he's done for several of his Millarworld comic books, Scottish scribe Mark Millar is once again offering one lucky person the chance to be immortalized in the pages of his work. Fox have already picked up the movie rights to Starlight, with Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past) set to produce ahead of production beginning at the end of 2014. Check out the press release below - as well as a first look at the character - for details on how you can take part...

Mark Millar (Kick-Ass) and Goran Parlov (Punisher) are offering fans a chance to name a character in Starlight, their new book from Image Comics. Starlight launched last month and has been receiving rave reviews, already picked up by Fox to be fast-tracked as a big-budget picture with Simon Kinberg’s Genre Films producing. All proceeds from the auction will go to a children’s school fund Millar has established to take local children from the area in Scotland where he  grew up to the theatre. Previous auctions have helped raise funds for a special-needs mini-bus, buy computers for a local school and refurbish the library in the school Millar attended from age five to eleven. He now wants to extend the fund-raising to a second school, such has been the success of previous charity auctions.

Mark explained, "I grew up in Coatbridge and have great memories of the town and my days at school. I know there's not a lot of money in local government right now and this auction will help enable both schools in my old neighbourhood to take the entire school to a pantomime at Christmas. This fund will cover tickets, transport and treats for the children - school trips were a big deal to me as a little kid and I'd love to get them up and running again, which hasn’t always been possible due to cuts in local government funding."

Starlight is a six issue series from Millarworld (Wanted, Kick-Ass, Nemesis and The Secret Service) and issue 3 will debut the character featured below, the winning bidder having their name filled into the word balloon. Issue three goes off to press next week and is published in May, the character appearing in every issue for the rest of this storyline.

I have a love/hate feeling about Mark Millar.

I love his work on comics. I can't really think of anything he's worked on that I just outright disliked.

However, I can't stand him and his nonsense. I think it all started when he was promoting Wanted as being a great adaptation of his comic, knowing that it was an outright lie the entire time. Ever since then, the guy just annoys me with the never ending shit that spews out of his man-pleaser.
