One can't deny the impact Marvel Studios has had on the movie business. But cultural? That's something only time will tell. Still a nice sentiment to hope for.

Great to hear actors passionate about comic books. Can't wait to see him as Purple Man and hopefully he will cameo in Daredevil. After all he did at one point make Karne Page take all her clothes off with and Daredevil had to rescue her.

I think the cultural effect is already pretty easy to see - just look at how beloved characters like Groot and Rocket and Drax have become in the short time since Guardians released, or the legions of new fangirls/fanboys that RDJ and Chris Evans/Hemsworth have picked up since their turns in the MCU, or the near-universal acclaim for The Avengers and the massive still-building hype for Age of Ultron.

But yeah at the end of the day, it's true that we'll have to wait to see the whole picture of how these movies have impacted our culture overall.

When characters like Superman, Batman, Spiderman, and now Iron Man, are recognized around the world, like Mickey Mouse, it seems arguable that comic books have already become cultural touchstones.

@MarkyMarkRises Marvel Studios is probably the Star Wars of the current generation. Those kids are very lucky.

@Reasonnnn

I would agree but even Star Wars wasn't really a cultural phenomena in the early 80s.

Can't wait to see him as the Purple Man. It's time to see how messed up Purple Man is on the small screen.

If they go full on comics' Purple Man then this would be the darkest and creepiest thing Marvel has ever done.

yes, almost 40 years after it's cinematic debut. The MCU has only been around for 7 years, and the mainstream/masses hardly even knew which Marvel movies were part of the MCU. It wasn't until Phase 2 where the general movie goers began to realize, as a whole, that only Marvel Studios movies were in the MCU.

I'm not saying it won't happen or that I think it won't happen, I'm just saying it hasn't even been a decade.

I love the fact that he's joining the MCU, and I'm sure he's going to be amazing...but there's still a part of me that sort of wishes he had a bigger role as a character in the movies or something. :P

To everyone- I think Tennant meant Marvel as a whole, not just Marvel Studios. Regardless, it's great to see someone so enthused about their work- and @DrDoom- was spot on when he said this guy should've been Reed Richards.

People thinking Tennant is only referring to Marvel Studios, psh. I'm doing a project in my history class about comics impacting upon pop culture, that's what Tennant is talking about.

If Marvel wants to be the cornerstone of cultural existence they're going to have to start making better movies, because as it stands now in 10 years we'll be looking back on half the movies as SW-prequel quality with Trevor and Darcy filling in for Jar-Jar Binks.
