My First Observation

Please be generous this is my first attempt at this, and I am just trying to give the perspective of someone relatively new to the culture and all it's wonder.

Hi Guys

I read with great sadness that one of the greatest, longest running comic book series The Uncanny X-Men is about to have it's curtain call, this for many of you reading this represents the end of a long, and much talked about era/story arc of a comic series that I have had a comparatively brief exposure to.

I have in my small collection of comic books some issues of this great title, and I fondly remember much enjoyment reading the stories, this is some of the best writing I have ever come across, be it in novel form or comic book. So my sympathies to those who are most hurt by today's news.

After reading the article and some of you comments on there, it reminded me of the conversation I'd some weeks ago with a Comic Book shop-owner here in Perth who had told me that half the Universe will face their demise, and will all be rebooted, and it lead me to think that maybe our beloved Comic Book publishers are now selling out on us wholesale, the one thing that we had over the rest of the world were these fantastic stories of men & women with genetic mutations, irradiated spider bites, outer space cosmic accidents, and so on and so forth are being "re-booted" to perhaps draw in a bigger crowd, to expose our beloved heroes & heroines to the wider public, and give them what they have been missing out on.

They could all be the victims of Marvel's success, with the great Comic Book based movies that have come out in recent years, these awesome cinematic adventures maybe the downfall of some beloved titles and characters.

Thanks for reading my article, this is my first attempt at this and I hope I have the opportunity for further observations.

good job on your first article, buddy! gotta start somewhere :)

since you said you're relatively new to the glorious world of comics, let me just explain something.

when a comic has been around for a very long time, such as Uncanny X-Men, the book will never truly go away forever. They are ending Uncanny during the Schism storyline that is getting ready to start next month. The story will show Cyclops and Wolverine coming to blows with each other over the future of the mutant race.

They may be cancelling the series, but I promise you that it will only be temporary. Comics are funny like that. Uncanny is doing fine in sales, so there is no reason for them to get rid of the series for no real reason. Being cancelled will serve Marvel's purpose for the time being, but make no mistake, Uncanny will rise again in the next few years. And when it does, it will make boat-loads of money. :)

You have a great way with words and I love forward to reading more of your article with some more content. It sucks that they had to stop such a great run, but the X-Men have not been rebooted in their 46 years of existence. All of the continuity is bogging down the stories and a change is needed. Hopefully this moves my favorite mutants in the right direction.

Good job on your first article.

It is indeed a pity when great comic series like the X-Men gets cancelled. I suppose, Marvel wanted to focus of making great stories out of their other series.

@ Bigk

"I suppose, Marvel wanted to focus of making great stories out of their other series."

What in the hell does that mean? Uncanny X-Men is Marvel's series. lol

"All of the continuity is bogging down the stories and a change is needed. Hopefully this moves my favorite mutants in the right direction."

Cancelling one X-Book isn't going to make the continuity any better. the continuity will be the same.

Hey

Thanks for the support guys, means a lot.

When I say I'm relatively new in the comic world I do mean I have been into them for just over 10 years, and I have been a member of this website since last year.

But for the most part, there is still so much i have yet to learn about all these awesome characters, but the more I come here the more I do, especially with Pollmaster's articles, there are super cool.

I'll certainly hit up another commentary in the next few days.

Thanks again for your kind words.
