Disclamor: I do not claim to be the a comicbook guru or anything. My purpose in creating this post is to keep the comicbook discussions going on this website. The person who used to post comicbook related material regularly was Sora who has left this site (we hope he comes back). Now with Sora gone I have taken it uppon myself to keep the comicbook posts going although now instead of discussing future comics, we will discuss the comics of the past week. Enjoy and PLEASE feel free to comment. I understand that I don’t read all the best comicbooks out there every week, so if you have something to add about a comic book that I didn’t review then feel free to share.
This week I read 3 comics:

Photobucket

Seig #2: I was very impressed with Seig #1 and this one was even more amazing. There is one page in this book that will make you go “HOLY @#$&!” Without giving too much away, there is a rescue, Steve Roggers rallies the troops and Jarvis gives us some foreshadowing of re-uniting the Holy Marvel Trinity (Cap, Thor, IM). This issue made me very anxious to get my hands on Seig #3 and Dark Avengers #14. I can hardly wait for either. This mega event is really shaping out to be something awesome. With all the hype building up to Seig I was very afraid this would be another Secret Invasion—lots of hype and lots of let down. Doesn’t seem to be true here. Final Note: Anyone who hates the Sentry or who thinks he's a pussy... please read this issue...

Photobucket

Ultimate X #1: I was pleasently surprised by this one. To say the least, I have not been a big fan of Jeff Loeb ever since he killed half of the Ultimate Marvel Universe for seemingly no reason. This is coupled with my distaste for his creation of the Red Hulk (also known as Rulk) and the Red She-Hulk who aslo seem completely unnessesary. However , Jeph’s issue of Ultimate X #1 made me strangly optamistic about him (as did last week’s FOTH: Red Hulk). This issue is really cool. We finally find out who the blond kid with wolverine claws is after months of teaser images. This character, named James, is also looking like he could shape into a very likable character as well. James seems like a nice guy with a real wild/dare-devilish side to him. Pluss, this story promisses to tell us how hope for mutants is born after Ultimatum. This first issue leads me to think this could be a great run, but appearances can be decieving, so we’ll see what happens.

Photobucket

Realm of the Kings-Son of Hulk: So here we have Hiro-Kala (the 2nd son of Hulk) travelling through space while searching for his brother to be unwillingly taken to the microverse plannet where Hulk had much previously married Jarella. This time, Jarella’s niece calls upon a sorcer to help her summon the Hulk to save their plannet that is being invaded by what appear to be giant house flies. Instead of the Hulk, Hiro-Kala appears and defeats the creatures by using the old power. It looks like Hiro-Kala is on a new quest for conquest, but I’m interested to see the differences in how Hiro-Kala (who is quickly becoming one of my favorate new Marvel characters) and the Hulk interact with the people of K’ai. I know this is probably just filler story for until Hiro-Kala joins his father and brother on Earth in World War Hulks, but it still looks pretty damn cool. I just think it’s really cool how a skinny little slaveboy in rags brough Galactus (no offense) to his knees.

So what did you think about this week in comics? What're you looking forward to?

*SPOILERS*

@Anil: Daken got his ass handed to him by Thor remember? I don't know what Ozzy was thinking sending him after Thor. I was absolutely shocked at Ares death. I still can't believe they killed off that character. Is Marvel trying to bury all their Olympians? Maybe they are and maybe that's a good thing. It gets a little confusing when you have several gods from several different mythos (Norse, Greek, some Egyptian too I think).
One thing's for sure, Jimmy is a hella-better than Daken. I like his Huck Fin Southern style and wasn't it Sora who predicted that the brunette in the picture was Kitty Pride? *sigh* Our trio is not complete without him. Maybe I'm seeing hope for Loeb because I'm being optimistic and I just want to see hope.
I dunno how they made it so that Caiera gave birth to twins after dying, but honestly how does a human being have green skin anyway? I just like the dynamic between Skaar and Hiro-Kala. At a first glance you could say that Skaar was the Hulk's son and Hiro-Kala was Banner's son. However, Skaar is not always a big red monster. He can revert back to a scared pale little Shadow People child. At the same time Hiro-Kala has a powerful intellect like Banner but wields enormous power (I think he could kick Skaar's ass hands down). Unlike the Hulk though, he's not obsessed with being left alone. Hiro-Kala likes to dominate others like he has a huge inferiority complex. You know eventually they're gonna have to kill off about half of the current Hulks, but I am VERY curious to see how it all plays out. At this point I don't really care who Red Hulk is (I haven't been following the comics long so I probably wouldn't know the person anyway). What I care more about is what is it all adding up to?

Oh, and off topic: Dija see the that X-Men poster for second coming that reads "one will lead... one will die"? I've been saying it for months now--Cyclops is totally gonna die in second coming. He won't stay dead of course, but I really got a strong feeling he's gonna be 86 real soon.

Also, did you read the Captain America last week?
!!! Did you read Ultimate Enemy last week? I loved the awkward exchange between Ben Grim and Sue. After I read it I was like, "Wow! That's so obvious, so natural. How come this has never been done before?" Well, at least to my very limited knowledge it hasn't been done before.
Supposedly F4 last week was awesome, and I really should pick it up so I can discuss it with you and...*sniff**sniff* Sora! *crying hysterically*

siege2 was cool but im a little thrown off of the timeline, last week in dark wolverine the book ended with daken stabbing osborne in the stomach and face with the murumasa claw, then in this book normans sending daken after thor.... confusing! sentry ripping ares in half was awesome (you called it anil) but i still think sentry is whack and cant wait to see thor give him the business...

i really REALLY enjoyed ultimate x. finally they told us what was in that box logan gave kitty before he died! and while it doesnt erase all the craziness of wolverine dying like that, it does bring a fresh new character into the ultimate universe. i cant wait to see how much he really is his fathers son.... the pet alligator was cool... the adamantium on the claws was confusing....?

as for that "one will lead one will die" stuff, cykes lookin into the grave in the pic so idunno if its him whose gonna die.... i think its emma

@Anil: Lol! Marvel boy. Why was he even in that book? He definately made the Dark Avengers more appealing because, to me, he was kind of a wild card like, "oo! What's he doing with all the bad guys? I can see this getting interesting..." and then it didn't. NOTHING happened. I was like, "I wanna help, so I'll join. Wait, you guys are bad? I can't stay. What is my purpose?" Apparently Marvel Boy's purpose is to hint at playing a major roll in Marvel events while lingering in the background doing nothing until that pivitol moment that reveals that maybe, he will be important, uh, in the near future. Oh also, his new costume kinda sucks. I'm all for new innovation and re-imaging, but that costume does not look cool at all.

Hiro Kala: Yeah, he won't last. He'll either be banished to death or another plannet or another dimention or some other kind of left-overs container for some writer to reach back into 10 years from now. He's just a very unlikely character and I'm really surious to see how it all pans out.

Steve Roggers: Yeah dude, he's definitely a man out of time and out of place being all over the place with not having the shield but having the shield but also having the backup shield. I don't consider Reborn to be Steve's official return. That was so anti-climactic it's not even funny. I'm hoping they got something better for him coming up this summer or fall to usher in the movie. I just hope they can do right by Bucky when they inevidably get rid of him. :(

Dude the Ben Grim - Sue Storm thing was absolutely beautiful. Did you notice they went back to the rock chipping off thing? I'm pretty sure that hasn't been touched on since Ultimate Origins. I'm hoping we finally get an explanation out of this. I have a theory that maybe Ben sheds rocks when he's dazzled by a pretty girl or something. I dunno how I feel about Ult Rick Jones. He's meant to be a sidekick-supporting roll. I don't know how you can maintain the spirit of the character while turning him into his own superhero.

ROTK: Yeah dude, definitely sucks. Huge fan of a ginormous intergalactic war between Vulcan with the Shiar empire and Blackbolt and the Kree lead by the Inhumans. Huge fan of a throwdown between Blackbolt and Vulcan. Not a fan of "the fault." Someone litterally needs to sit me down and explain to me why "the fault" is cool. I don't get it. Why do we need this? Maybe so something cool can come out like Magnus or Thanos or Annihilus or maybe Silver Surfer ongoing series (got my fingers crossed).

X-Men: I really hope it's not Emma who dies. It won't be Magneto because his death would have very little impact at this point. What if Jean Grey comes back and leadership among the mutants is once again divided in two except instead of being between Prof-X and Magneto it's between Jean Greay and Emma Frost (ever notice how neither one of them have a superpower name?). I am so sad that Jubilee is depowered. WTF? Give her her powers back! Since Kitty's coming back, they can't be on the same team, so put one on the X-Men and one on a space X-Men team with Polaris, Havok, Rachel Grey, and the rest of the living Star Jammers.

USM: I'm liking USM. I'm curious to see where this is all going. I'm especially looking forward to next week's issue where they hint that Aunt May has a break down with all these random personalities in her house. I like the re-imagined Mysterio and teenage Johny Storm + teenage Peter Parker in the same house equals lots of trouble. I can't wait to see someone get arrested or kicked out of the house. Plus you throw in Bobby Drake which can only add to the chaos.

Ultimate Avengers: Eh. I'm gonna stay loyal to em, just cause I love Mark Millar and Ultimate anything (cept Ironman/Armorwars). I'm really liking the Ult War Machine, but not so much the Wasp/Jocasta, Smart Hulk, diabolical Spidy, or new Stark (almost feels like Ultimate Red Hulk and Red She-Hulk: completely unnecessary). As for the Red Skull being Cap's psycho son, I'll buy it. An insane nemesis obsessed with destroying Cap and everything he stands for (freedom, peace, justice, etc). I do like that this Red Skull is not old and frail and can kick Cap's ass. Plus he's insane homicidal Buffalo Bill smiling happy boy who under the surface is a criminal genius. He's like Hanibal Lecter in the body of an MMA midheavyweight champion.

Didn't read the Daken thing and it sounds like it's probably for the best. I'm kinda hoping that chacter dies by the end of Wolverine: Origins. Side Note: I also hope Wolverine can un-remember his past and go back to normal (he was so much more appealing when his past was shrouded in mystery).

Ultimate Avengers looks cool. Can't wait to see it all come back together. I kinda miss the Ultimate crossovers with Supreme Power. I wonder when SP's gonna come back.

As for the adamantium claws, I wonder if it's something to do with the effects of something in the box Kitty brought or if it has to do with Jimmy's REAL power. Remember how Jimmy had never popped his claws until he saw his dad do it and believed that maybe he could too? If his power is something other than claws and healing factor, then I hope it's not something too over-the-top.

Oh yeah, I'm a little bumbed that with Ozzie taking center stage he's not really Spidy's enemy anymore. Now he's Cap's enemy, Thor's enemy, Luke Cage's enemy, Iron Man's enemy, War Machine's Enemy, Bucky's enemy, Nick Furry's enemy. Spidy hasn't taken a central roll since Civil War so how are we gonna get the Spidy-stomping-Ozzy resolution that we're all hoping for.

Also, HOW IN THE WORLD DID MARIA HILL RESCUE THOR FROM NORMAN AND LIKE 5 OTHER SUPER VILLAINS WITH A ROCKET LAUNCHER AND A MACHINE GUN AND A PICK UP TRUCK? She's a tough chick, but there's just no way. I'm not buy'n it. Ares getting ripped in half made up for it though.

Steve won't be Fury Jr. I think we're still waiting for Steve's big entrance. Unfortunately it'll come at the cost of Bucky.

The Secret Weapon is definitely not "the Void". At least, unless Doom became afraid of Sentry after he ripped his mask off just before secret invasion. I can't see Doom being intimidated by the Sentry or any of his alter-egos. I still say it's Odin brought back. They'll need to bring him back for the movie anyway.

Secret Avengers? Secret Warriors + Ultimate Avengers?

Bucky can't stay Cap. He's either going to die or move on. It's very sad, ESPECIALLY since it was a huge surprise that it actually worked really well (maybe even better than Steve-Cap). This current "2 Americas" Cap doesn't look so great out the door, but I'm buying them anyway. I think of it as my last farewell to Bucky-Cap );

You would probably know better than me Anil--is the "Heroic Age" we are now ushering in going to be the same "Heroic Age" referenced in the alternate future of 2099? I was under the impression that this whole time Marvel has been in the "Heroic Age." I never got to read that 2099 time-slide comic thing this last summer.

Ya know what? I'm gonna miss Norman after Seig. You know he'll be gone for a while, either dead, locked up, or in hiding or something. He's made a surprisingly awesome face of evil for the the Marvel Universe.

I like the whole Pete+Gwen with awkward friendship with MJ at least for the fact that this dynamic can't be explored in the 616 MU. I wonder if they'll have Gwen die in some heroic tragic way (you know it can't last because we all know that MJ is Pete's real girl).

Marvel Boy... I would be totally fine if he made a deal with Mephisto to erase everyone's mind of that horrible image of his new suit/costume/wtf? That would not bother me one bit.

Loki handing Odin over to Osborn? Wow, actually that would make sense. Yeah, Odin fighting Asgard would not only be EPIC in size and power, but it would be EPIC in emotions and heart-break and stuff.

Dude I really like Ultimate Gwen too. She seems like the most mature character in the Ult Spidy cast.

Yea dude, the more I think about it, Bucky IS Captain America Reborn. I guess they'll just have to make Steve more relatable than Bucky.

So you think this whole time Dark Rein has been lead by Loki and not Norman? Wow, that really kinda makes sense. How did I not see that before? And if he really handed Odin over to Norman, then the Cabal was really Loki's idea all along wasn't it? Holy crap!

@Makiveli: In case you ever read this, I just wanna say that I'm thrilled you're back on the comic posts! We gotta keep it going now that Sora's not here. Hopefully we can draw him back. He always got me interested in stuff like X-Men and F4 which I otherwise wouldn't be that interested in.

jusme- i love the comic posts dude and i hope we do them every week! reading all of your opinions helps make sense of all the craziness going on lol. i love talking to people like you and anil who actually know what theyre talking about!

SIEGE- i think theyre really trying to emphasize the original avengers, thor, cap, and iron man.... even though i want to see spidey kick normans ass it seems like hes not going to take part in siege.... same with wolverine.... maybe iron man and cap just kick normans ass and he gets arrested at the end of siege, only to break out of prison as the reborn green goblin! then spidey can renew his beef with norman.... that daken thing stabbing norman really threw me off, but your probably right about it being a fantasy or dream.... if odin really is the secret weapon then maybe norman actually wins in the end of siege? the teasers all showed the heroes as victorious (bucky-cap with the gun to normans head, spidey holding a bloody goblin head, wolvie ready to take out daken) but what if norman actually succeeds and takes asgard? does the "heroic age" necessarily have to happen directly after siege? the "dark reign" has alot of loose ends to tie up in the next couple months and i cant wait! thor vs sentry will be the highlight.... rogers should be captain america especially with the movie comin out, i like the idea of bucky taking over the us agent mantle....

the ultimate u- i love the art in ultimate x, but i hate the japanimation look in ultimate spidey!!!!!! and petes hair is terrible!!!! do you remember how sexy the girls were drawn in the first 100 issues? ...that issue with just gwen on the cover... they were HOT! now they look like little japanese girls. its HORRIBLE! and i dont really know what to think of all these people living in aunt mays house, she seems totally different after ultimatum, almost like the new writers didnt even read the first 100 issues of the original ultimate spidey. and the gwen-peter thing is weird because gwens a clone right? i can totally see the clone degeneration thing happening to her.... ultimate x could end up being the best book in the ultimate u if done right (jimmy already seems really cool, i live in south florida and they really captured it with the alligator and southern feel, he has southern charm or "swag" as we call it).... ultimate avengers is cool with red skull but i still dont understand that new spidey?.... ultimate enemy was okay but i guess we will have to wait a couple issues before we really know whats goin on.

@Makiveli: I wasn't very impressed by Ultimate Enemy #1, but I also wasn't impressed with Ultimate Secret #1. Ultimate Enemy is the first issue of a 3 part ark like with the Ultimate Galactus. It'll probably be cool when we put the whole first ark together. For now, just be patient.

Yeah Ult Peter Parker's hair is really kinda bothering me. Reminds me of a kid I used to hate in elementary school. You know something about MJ's new face just didn't sit right with me, and some of the other characters as well like Johny Storm and Bobby Drake (Ice-Man's got a head that looks like a sideways egg). Now that you mention it, yeah it all does look very anime. The girls also have a japanese school girl quiet type stick figure with a big head and ginormous eyes.

Kinda reminds me of that one South Park...
Photobucket

Is Gwen really a clone? I can't remember after all that Carnage/Venom suit stuff.

Ultimate X was a huge surprise for me. I was just gonna buy it cause I generally get all the Ultimate stuff, but it was actually really cool. I'm really impressed with how they introduced Jimmy. There's a fine line between Jimmy's swagger style and white-trash/racist/inbred/backwater/hillbilly (if you're from the South you KNOW what I'm talkn bout). Both Jeph Loeb and Art Adams did a great job of giving Jimmy the right kind of swagger with none of the negative attributes I mentioned.

Norman's not gonna win. We all know it. I'm sure they'll do a one-shot "What If?" issue about "What if Norman Osborn succeeded in his Siege of Asgard and defeated the heroes?"
Yeah, I'm really confused about the teasers of Spidy with the Goblin Mask and Wolvie beating the crap out of Daken. I can't see how Spidy's gonna get the chance to take down Norman. Spidy's a side character in the New Avengers at best (nothing against Spidy, that's just how he's been written). If they do throw down, it won't be front and center. It'll be like Spidy meets Norman in an empty hallway in Asgard, they fight, and Spidy wins with no one watching. If done right it could be very satisfying.
Makiveli21
Makiveli21 - 2/9/2010, 8:34 PM
yeah i dont see how spideys been runnin around with the new avengers and runnin the gauntlet himself.... same with wolverine, new avengers and xmen and xforce, and goin after romulus where does he find the time?.... norman may lose in siege but he will live, and someday don the green and purple once more.... definitely a "what if" typa book- "what if norman won?" awesome!.... and ultimate gwen was a clone of ultimate carnage/gwen but venom "absorbed" the symbiote off of her in a storyline that seemed to fall off because it was right before "ultimatum" and they never really wrapped it up

@Anil: You mentioned Echo. I forgot about her. Does she still exist in the comics? I definitely like the idea of bringing back Night Thrasher.

I dunno about the T-Bolts idea. Aren't the T-Bolts supposed to be a team of "reformed" criminals? I also think Barton would work better as the leader being he has a criminal background but he'll be on the Avengers.

I'm really hoping that Second coming results in Wolverine re-losing his memory as well as limiting to him to 2 or MAYBE 3 regular comic series.

Dude, I have NO IDEA who those two people in Secret Avengers are. My best guess at the second guy would be he's the Hood based on the picture and the "redemption" thing, but other than that it really makes no sense.

So you're from Trini? NO WAY! One of my best friends is from Trini. All I can say is Trini = some of the most BEAUTIFUL people in the world. Their people are hard working and fun as hell!

I'm from the state of Maryland in the US (I'm a 30 min drive from Washington DC). I was really hoping to post some new comic news stuff after hitting the comics store, but everything's shut down today. Last night we got like 2 feet of snow (on top of the 3ft we already had) and it's still coming.

So far, there's at least 2 Secret Avengers who wear capes. That should narrow down the field a lot but I really can't figure it out. Taskmaster would seem better suited for the Thunder Bolts, but the first caped guy does have a hood and does "seek redemption." My second guess would be The Hood, but he's a bad guy and if he goes good he'd be in the Thunder Bolts right? Just doesn't make any sense. The second is clearly a woman. Emma Frost with a cape? Enchantres with a cape? Storm? None of those make sense, but there has to be a cape. If it turns out to be some C-list super heroin then that would really kill it for me. The first guy looks very reptilian to me, but the Lizzard? How would that make sense?

Wait a sec! Why have I not thought of it until now? Echo was targetted by the Skruls to be abducted so she's a real key player. After SI she kinda dissapeared without a trace or explanation. What is Echo is really..........

NORMAN OSBORN'S SECRET WEAPON!!!

...or maybe not...

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of sarcastic wise-cracking Gargan/Venom (only Venom's powers are supposed to mirror Spider Man). I think the simbyote needs to come home to Brock.

Checked it. I don't know how I feel about the coming "Heroic Age." It kinda looks to me like Marvel is experimenting with creating a MU that is more like the DCU with the good guys being all "truth, justice and the American way" while all the bad guys are all "I fight for money, power at the expense of whoever it takes." I dunno, just sounds kinda cheesy and overly predictable. I'm really not looking forward to these Heroic Age shorts. Apparently Dr. Voodoo's gonna play a bigger roll in this heroic age.

Check out this page:
http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2010/02/12/guess-the-secret-avengers/

The guy predicts that the first image is Beast, but I really can't see it. Moon Night makes sense. I don't know enough about Valkilri to confirm or deny. A lot of people have been throwing around the Black Panther's name which makes me wonder if the woman in the cape is really T'Chal's little sister who has recently taken up the mantel of Black Panther. Who knows? Anyway, I'm thinking the guy with the big forearms is either War Machine or Gauntlet. The whole "I lead by example" makes me think of Steve Rogers, but I don't think so. Here are some of the possibilities I've come up with that don't seem to make sense:
-Steve Rogers: He's still getting adjusted to this new world so no leadership rolls right now.
-Nova: He's to busy in outer space
-Marvel Boy: Looks the part, but definitely not a leader
-Justice: He usually sports a cape
-Night Thrasher: Ehhhh maybe. I can't see him leading all these heavy hitters though.
-Black Panther: Won't he be busy with Doom War? There's also no pointy ears in the image.
-Nick Furry: Lead by example? Naw, he leads by being secretive and bossy (not that I don't like him, just saying the quote doesn't fit).
-Daredevil: No pointy ears. Too busy leading the Hand.
-Cyclops: Nope, he'll be dead by the end of Second Coming.

Wow, this thread is getting really long. I gotta start posting some new stuff after I hit the comics store today.
