Nick Spencer's Amazing Spider-Man run will conclude with issue #74/#875 this September, a huge surprise when it looked like the former Captain America writer might be around for the long haul.
During his run, the writer has brought Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson back together, killed Kraven the Hunter, and resurrected the pre-"One More Day" Harry Osborn as the sinister Kindred. There have been lots of hints that the infamous storyline might somehow be undone (and that Harry's return was a consequence of Peter breaking his deal with Mephisto), but there's not long left to wrap that up.
Spencer's final issue will be 80-pages long, with artwork from Patrick Gleason, Mark Bagley, Marcelo Ferreira, and more. Whether the writer always intended to end things here is hard to say, but it's certainly going to be interesting seeing where he leaves things for his successor.
"The last three years of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN have been Nick Spencer’s love letter to his favorite character and comic," says Editor Nick Lowe. "He may be the biggest Spidey fan ever as evidenced from the fact that he read every Spider-Man comic in preparation for his landmark run."
"From #1 all the way through #74, Nick (along with Ryan Ottley, Humberto Ramos, Patrick Gleason, Mark Bagley and more) has gone huge with more villains, more supporting characters, and more punishment for Peter Parker. From 'Hunted' to 'Sins Rising' to 'Last Remains' to 'King’s Ransom' to 'Sinister War' and now to the ultra-sized finale 'What Cost Victory' Nick will bring his web-slinging rollercoaster ride back into the station in a way you’ll never forget!"
Amazing Spider-Man #875 will be released on September 22. There's currently no word on who will be taking over, but it's said that there's news coming next week on that front, so stay tuned.
