The popularity of audio books has seen a steady increase through the years whether listening while commuting or during your morning run, they are a popular option for the busy multitasker in search of quality entertainment.

Now Marvel Entertainment is joining the party with Ms. Marvel Volume 1: No Normal a comic based on Marvel’s first Muslim American super hero Kamala Khan.  Ms. Marvel is their first published title to be adapted into audiobook form, and tells the story of a New Jersey teen who acquires extraordinary powers. She soon discovers that this new gift may be dangerous and more than she can handle. How will the spunky young hero respond to this new responsibility.

Put together by GraphicAudio.net  the story follows the first 5 issues of the Mr. Marvel comic series, and while this isn’t Marvels first collaboration with GraphicAudio Ms. Marvel it the first adapted directly from the source material. This audio adaptation contains cinematic music, a full cast of voices, and digital sound effects, with no narrator to help recreate the story scene by scene capturing the unique experience of a comic book. You can listen to an example in the audio trailer below.

Reminiscent of a young Peter Parker, Kamala Khan is a character that resonates with a new generation of readers and the fact that she was chosen as Marvel’s first audio book supports her popularity. Comics by nature have always been considered a visual experience, but I applauded Marvel for looking at other ways to tell the fascinating stories they create.

The Ms. Marvel audio version is mixed in stereo 5.1 Surround Sound DTS, and available online starting Monday, via the GraphicAudio Access app and CD formats.

There are actually several graphic audio books by marvel.
Secret Wars, Rocket and Groot steal the Galaxy, and Civil War are just a few of them. They are all great though. The DC graphic audio books are pretty amazing too.
I think there are 9 or 10 Marvel audiobooks as of now... Just sayin...

Stupid character. I'm sorry, but she is. Marvel is having some weird ass self importance crisis this year. Look at this pointlessly diverse "Avengers" team. Absolutely retarded and unnecessary. Every original character either has to be gay, a different skin color, a child or a woman now. And for what? God, please fire Joe Quesadilla.

@TheGambitFreak Agreed 100% I was just getting back to keeping up on current issues and collecting because of the Marvel Now Thor when it first got going, as soon as they made Jane Thor I gave up completely on anything they're doing right now. I'm just sticking with the new Star Wars runs because those are actually well done. Everything else just feels cheap for lack of a better word.

@CapnMurphy2021 you are correct. There are other other audio collections but my understanding is that they were original stories created specifically for GraphicAudio and and only based on certain comic series. While this is the first to follow the story as it's written in the book more akin to a audio version of a novel for example. I know semantics lol. Also thanks for the info on the DC ones I'll check those out.

@thegambitfreak...
You should read them if you haven't. I haven't read all of the books you mentioned (I mostly read Valiant and Image these days) but... What I have read(ms marvel and Thor) has be really good if not great!

@speedy...

Several were adapted directly from the source material. X-Men Gifted/Civil War/Secret Wars/Death of Captain America ... There are a couple that are original for graphic audio ... But about half are direct adaptations...

Excited for this one!

@TheGambitFreak While I disagree with your assessment of her as a stupid character I'm on board with the rest of you post though. She is a quality character for a certain audience, but has no business included a book like the Avengers.

"ISIS is not happy about it. wants to behead her. lol"

The sad thing is that could very well be true.

I guess the effort behind ppl just wanting comic book creators to make new characters for diversity is a failure too. So, 1. don't add diversity by changing the ethnicity or gender of a character who is White, and, 2. don't create new characters with diverse backgrounds because "it's pandering". Could it be that certain ppl only want to see characters that cater to one demographic? Could it be that ppl don't really want diversity and only throw their fake support behind creating new characters for diversity's sake when they're in danger of "losing" the ones they are comfortable seeing in a familiar palette, while, all the time, knowing how hard it is for these characters to gain traction because, secretly, they know they would never patronize it? Naw, that couldn't be. Ppl don't do shit like that...

...or do they?

speedyg33 - Considering almost every hero in the Marvel Universe has been an Avenger at one point or another (including supervillains like Sandman!), I think your point is rubbish.

FriendORFaux - Why is it that certain people cry pandering whenever new POC or women characters are created, but never do when new white dudes are introduced?

Besides there is a flaw to your catering of one demographic argument: Remember that movie BLADE? Was that made to cater to black people? Hell no, that was made to cater to people in general, its just that character from the comics (and retained for those) films was a badass vampire hunter who just happened to be black.

This reminds me of gamers whining about how "feminazi" the rebooted Tomb Raider video game series had become, yet her last game ended up being the best-selling entry of the franchise. And remember how big that series was back in the 1990s, for comparison's sake.

So are we complaining about tokenism on principle or because they don't sell? If its the latter, well one can bring up examples of how rubbish that is. If it's on the principle of the matter....well, there's nothing I can do for some of you.

All I can say is as a white redneck kid, I loved Luke Cage. Why? Because of that one old issue where Dr. Doom stiffed him on promised pay, and Cage flew over to Latveria and beat the crap out of him until he coughed up the $200 Cage was owed. That made me a Cage fan for life. It's also cool he's black, but mostly I responded to this badass mercenary character.

But right, "pandering" is bad!

@TheGambitFreak The truth is money will always be the guiding force behind decisions. Marvel comics don't sell like they used to, and they're constantly trying to attract new members. It's not the mid 1900's anymore, the world is different and will continue to change and the comics are a reflection of that. Maybe you're upset because the characters you grew up with aren't the stars they used to be, I'm sorry you're upset but it happens. If your real issue is their race, and sexuality, then that says a lot about you. (Although I do agree that i'm not as okay with 3 of them being so young) This generation can complain all they want, the important thing is the next generation has characters they can look up to. Cause the truth is, if they're telling a good story, and I feel i'm getting something out of it, then it's totally worth it

@RRA To wrongs don't make a right. A bad addition to the Avengers is a bad addition. My reasons for exclusion have nothing to do with gender or ethnicity. When I was a kid I was the biggest Spider-Man fan and I loved how he never joined the Avengers. To me the Avengers were the grownups and being a member was a job. I like Spidey free and unafraid doing as he pleased with zero oversight. That's how I see Kamala. I don't mind an occasional team up but allow her to grow in her own book. I hope you didn't see my comment as anti-female. I'm very open about the fact that I am a father first and have daughters who enjoy both Kamala and Spider-Man comics.
