The Amazing Spider-Man was not bad in my mind. Aside from the forced parent story, everyone was well cast and the writing felt fairly true to the character. We got the humorous and fun side of Spider-Man that we never really saw in the Rami films. On that note, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a bit of a mess. It was sloppily put together, with too many villains and an over-advertising problem. The acting was still good and the chemistry was strong between Garfield and Stone, but unfortunately, the film falls short of great, maybe even of good. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 has been canceled, and much to the dismay of fans, Andrew Garfield will not be returning as the web-slinging hero. I'm disappointed that we won't see his Spider-Man interacting with the Avengers, but this does present an opportunity. Garfield is free for other work! So here are 3 properties that could make for interesting roles for Garfield.
4. A John Green Adaptation
John Green is what Nicholas Sparks would be, if talented in any way shape or form. He recently did very well with a film adaptation of his teen-cancer-romance novel: The Fault In Our Stars. Garfield may be getting a bit old to star amongst teens, seeing as he's in his 30's, but I bought it in Spider-Man, so I'm sure I could buy it in this. Plus, Garfield has the awkward charm that is essential in anything John Green.
3. Star Wars Spin Offs
Disney has announced that Star Wars will get a few spin offs in the coming years, and while I wouldn't like Garfield taking Centre stage as Boba Fett or Han Solo, I would still like to see him in a similar role. Since we're getting a young Solo movie, wouldn't it be cool to see Garfield as his cocky older friend or brother? If not something along the outlaw lines, it would be cool to see him wield a light saber as a Jedi, or... a Sith?
2. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Garfield could maybe pull off the main character of Newt Scamander, but failing that, he would make a fantastic wizard in the Harry Potter universe. Are we seeing a young Dumbledore? Anyway, there are three of these films to come, so there should be a character in there for Garfield.
1. Doctor Who
Doctor Who is... Dropping in quality. Not due to Peter Capaldi by the way, but more to the writing of Steven Moffat. He has a hit now and then, but mostly Whovians groan at the show trying overly hard to be "Hip". It's science fiction, it doesn't have to be Hip! It has to be interesting, but not obnoxiously so. It still has to make some sense. To give it credit, it gender-swapped the Master and I didn't hate it. The actress actually pulled it off brilliantly! And with that said, can we have a male companion? Mostly because I'm sick of the love story that always happens between the Doctor and his companion, but also because, it would be good to have a change of pace. Andrew Garfield would be great next to Capaldi (if he was on it before Capaldi left). Their chemistry would work brilliantly. Would Garfield work as the 13th Doctor? I guess. He's got the acting skill an everything, but I'm more interested as seeing him as the companion.
So that's my list. Hope you enjoyed. What's your opinion? Leave it below, and as always, thanks for reading.
